Remember folks, Provape sells the same batteries as RTD regarding AW IMR and you dont need to buy a Provari to get 'em. I can testify, even though I'm closer to RTD (new jersey) than Provape (Washington) Provape ships pretty damn fast, too. Price difference between the two are trivial.

Just sayin' :)

Hi all! I also bought a Vamo (v2 though). I have yet to use this thing because I am skeptical on the batteries that I purchased. The vendor sold me 2 ICR 18350's and said that these were recommended by the manufacturer. My understanding so far is that you are supposed to use IMR's in ALL APV's. Could have been an error or mistake, on the vendors part. These batteries are grey in color and 'Special Lithium Battery' is printed on them (Made by D.K.L. Battery). He also said you can stack these batteries in which... again, I thought that it wasn't safe to stack. You can use one 18650 in stealth mode, but I haven't bought the 18650 battery yet. My question is... are the icr's safe to use in the VAMO? ( I hope I'm posting in the right spot, because I'm have a hard time maneuvering in the site...kinda confusing).

 OK, this is going to get even more confusing. Some mods are designed to accept stacked batteries. I won't even attempt to list which ones are as I don't know. I found this thread ICR batteries... all protected? when I googled "DKL battery". There was some discussion and confusion on that thread whether these batteries, which sound like the ones you have, are protected or unprotected. There was also discussion about these batteries coming with the Vamo and being able to stack them.

Ordinarily, and you heard right, stacking batteries is considered to be risky and not recommended. Some mods are designed to allow stacking, their processors are designed to operate in that mode. I don't own a Vamo and don't know if its safe or suggested to do so. I'm not familiar with the DKL batteries either. Unless someone else more qualified than me wants to step in and give sound advice, I'd use a single battery over stacking two shorter batteries. That's just me, as I tend to lean to the safer side of things rather than the grey unknown side. At this point I haven't been convinced if these are protected or unprotected ICR or high drain batteries.

IMRs are used in regulated mods that use buck boost circuits to achieve variable voltage-wattage. This class will have less capacity in mAh rating compared to protected batteries, but are superior when maximum load current is required (high drain), such as in regulated mods, or mechanical mods using a Kick, or using an RBA.

The option (and possible risk) is yours whether to use these batteries. If you can find documentation by the manufacturer the DKL batteries are recommended, then they should be safe. Unless you know and really trust your vendor from past experience, I wouldn't go by what they say. They might not really know, and they aren't the one putting the mod up in their face. Historically these DKL batteries have been shipped and used in a number of Vamos, apparently even stacked. If it was me, I would go with a more known entity and use one of the more acknowledged name brand batteries in single mode. You can't go wrong with AW IMR's.

If the mod is designed for a single battery then even if you can stack (like with magnets) it is not advisable, folks. But if the mod is meant for stacked batteries, then you're completely fine. And if the mod can accept both options (single or stacked without mags) then the safe play is to stay with single battery operation.

THE COMMON THEME HERE IS, always use AW IMRs. Respect your battery, folks.

Stacked IMR 18350's in a Vamo is fine and safe IF:

  1. You start off with brand new batteries (AW IMR 18350's are the only brand I would recommend for stacking)
  2. Use them in matched pairs (label them, keep them paired, use them only in stacked mode)
  3. Rotate top vs. bottom battery after every recharge (1A on top, 1B on bottom, recharge, 1B on top, 1A on bottom, recharge, etc.)
  4. You have a quality charger that recharges both batteries to the exact same voltage

Think of stacked batteries being akin to front and rear tires on your car. You want them to be in the same condition and to wear out evenly. That's why we buy new tires in pairs or sets of four and rotate them regularly. (Well, most folks do.)

Also, there's really no reason to use stacked 18350's unless you're using dual coil cartos at higher power settings. For most vapers, a quality IMR/hybrid/high drain 18650 gets the job done safely with no performance issues.

Thanks much for your input Baditude! I received my IMR's in the mail yesterday. I did do another search to a couple more sites and I noticed those DKL Batteries being sold with the Vamo. I did a lot of research on batteries and I personally don't want to use them. So, I'm convinced that ICR's can be dangerous, from what I've read, so I'm going with my new Imr Batteries. I also don't need to stack, because I can use one 18650 with the extension connected to it.
Thanks again. :vapor:
