I currently have a njoy fixed voltage eGo and I'm looking to upgrade to a more satisfying vape. Basically what I want out of a mod is a long battery life, durably made and can take a little wear and tear. And im not willing to pay $200 for 350 watt device or whatever is out there, im.lookimg for something for a beginner, not a cloud making machine

Any suggestions?

Sub $40 you can get the...

Eleaf Pico 75W is a single 18650 battery mod
Cuboid 150W is a dual 18650 battery mod
Reuleaux RX200 is a triple 18650 battery mod

Both the cuboid and rx200 suffer from 510 problems where attys either will not sit flush or upon sitting flush will cause the 510 pin to get stuck so your other attys with shorter 510 connection won't register.

Sub $100 you can get

Sigelei 213 is a dual 18650 battery mod

Of course my suggestions are biased and based on my own experience with mods that i actually own.

i'm confused, you will pay $200 for a 300 watt device, but you don't want to blow clouds?
Under $200 there are tons of options! The Realux 200's, Isticks I can go on and on for days.
What features do you think you'd like to have? What sounds like something you'd enjoy?
I just picked up an Eleaf Istick Pico and a Theorum tank for $54. 75 watts, multiple temp control settings, and it's a great size with a replaceable battery!
There's the mini volt, 40 watts of goodness around the same price as the Pico, but an internal battery, that is limited.
The Realux 200 can run for days with the three 18650's in it, depending on how hard you push it. Can be found under $80 easily, BUT you need to buy two full sets of batteries, keeping them married, meaning you need to charge and discharge them all equally. Ad to that that I'm just not a fan of series mods, I'm out.
But narrow down what YOU think you want and we can help you better there.

Op said he/she is NOT willing to pay $200, so I'm assuming he / she's on a budget but looking to upgrade to something more powerful than his/her current setup.

OH! My bad, I've got drain bamage tonight! Sorry!
Yeah, the Istick Pico is the bomb for a budget vape! Only had mine two days, but once it fell out of a pocket and bounced off gravel, today it jumped out of my pocket and bounced off of concrete! Minimal damage, little, light scratch, but I picked it up and went on with life, both times!

For battery life you may want to stick to 2 battery devices and if you want to carry it with you then you need something pocket friendly. The Cuboid paired with a Cubis tank will fit the bill. like Rice said, it does have a short 510 connection but if you stick to tanks made by Joyetech like the Cubis, you will not have a problem. I have one for work and I got one for my brother, who is a new vaper, and he loves it with the .5 ohm coil at 25 watts. There are also HIGHER OHM COILS such as .1 and .15 coils available for lower wattage toodle puffing. Also the Cubis tank does not leak and he did not like some other tanks because they did leak in his pocket. About $70 for Cuboid, Tank and 2 batteries.
If you want something that can take a multitude of tanks or RDAs then you may want to look at The new Sigelei 213, I don't have 1 yet, but I will be ordering 1 soon. Smaller than the Cuboid, dual battery at around $100. Good reviews and Sigeleis have a history of being durable.
Not as pretty, but another pocket friendly dual battery is the Smok R200, it's a durable little mod, dual battery and can take a variety of tanks and RBAs. Mod is around $40.
I would plan on 2 devices. One as your everyday and then something else as a back-up, maybe a single battery device like the Pico with the Mini Melo 3 tank around $40 at Vape NW not including battery. But you will want a back up in case your main device fails. The Pico is a decent little 75 watt mod, but chain vaping at 50 watts the battery will only last about 3-4 hours. Whatever you decide on remember to add in the cost of the batteries and an external charger.

Sounds like you are what some might call a "tootler". So am I. Something with an Aspire Nautilus tank on it. In my opinion the Nautilus Mini has the better flavor between it and the full size Nautilus. On the other hand, the full size will hold twice as much juice as the mini. AND ... no one will accuse you of cloud chasing with those HA !!! I'm very happy with my Aspire Nautilus Mini on an Aspire Pegasus Mini ... and the full size Nautilus on the full size Aspire Pegasus. But since I tootle and only run 1.8 or 1.6 coils in either Nautilus, the Pegasus is overkill. On the other hand, the Pegasus just feels nice in the hand and runs off long life 18650 batteries.

Then there are the Provari mods and Kabuki tanks on either end below, but they are pretty pricy.

That little iStick Basic (middle of picture below) is nice with a .75 coil and it has a built in 2300 mAh battery and I would recommend it for many beginners, but it's SMALL and only holds 1.8 ml of juice and there is no variable voltage (V/V) or variable wattage (V/W) feature ... but doesn't need it.

Another ample set up to consider on the cheap beside/instead of the iStick Basic is an Innokin T18. The T18 has great flavor but the top coils do tend to spit a little if you draw hard and quick and one must pace their draw as most vapers do. The T18 doesn't have adjustable features either, but comes from Innokin designed to output 14W for the life of the battery charge. And for my preference, 14W is a little too high a wattage for a 1.5 ohm coil but is a surprising nice set up with good bang for the buck ... if you tootle.

My Innokin T18. Comes in this, an all black and something else, I forget.

    • eLeaf iSick Pico kit can be had for <=$50 (even after adding a battery)
    • JoyTech VTC Mini kit can be had for <=$50 (even after adding a battery)
(prices reflect online pricing, B&M prices will be much higher)

Just two popular options out of dozens available for less than $50

With a 10pack of cigarettes costing >=$50 (1 week supply for me) an APV is a rather inexpensive alternative.

(I just took delivery of a few 20w box mods (similar to the iStick) and 2ml tanks (similar to the Nautilus mini) for less than $25 delivered.)

I'd recommend the Kanger TopTank Mini for your tank. This would give you a variety of coil options to find your sweet spot.

And I'd pair a tank like that with the new Istick Pico mod. There are lots of options for mods like this at the moment, and they're all pretty great. I just think you can't beat the small size of this one. Just note that you'd have to get an 18650 battery for it. I'd suggest getting a couple and an external charger for them. That way, you can just throw a new one and never need to stop vaping to charge your whole device.

I would say get an joytech AIO as well. For $15 bucks, you just can't beat it for an out an about device. It's a great backup, so get I'd get it in addition to the pairing above.

The Pico is a very good choice.
    Solid device. Good price.
Very small and easy to carry, 75watts, temp control, even has a bypass mode to vape unregulated.

I went in with a buddy to combine shipping, got the Istick Pico and a Theorum tank for $54 shipped! With our combined order we met the $75 free shipping.
I can't say the Theorum is a great starter tank, but the Aspire products, Atlantis (loose draw, high wattage) and Nautilus (tighter draw, lower wattage, but great flavor), I am a huge fan of! Easy to fill, easy to change coils on, and you don't have to empty the tank to change them! Either can be found for $20-$25 easily.
I still encourage something with a replaceable battery, but that's me. I'd rather throw away a $8 battery than a $40 mod just because it wont hold a charge anymore. Others have better experiences with them than I have, but I'm hard on things!

Eleaf products kick .... Well, I can only speak for the iStick30, but man that thing is a deal. 30ish dollars, and I can get it wet, toss it at the pavement 20 times, you name it... they keep on kicking.

I'm willing to bet the iStick 50 and the pico are also great. For the price, maybe get a 30 and a pico. The 30 is pretty small which is nice sometimes.

I use a subtank Nano, which is a nice upgrade from eGo style tanks, but I feel like there are better tanks out there. Just haven't experimented much.

Thanks everyone, i ended up gettingt the PICO and its just amazing. Consistent power all the way through, its size makes it discreet and it has a preety good battery life and lasts me the whole day, had it for a week with no problems, the Melo 3 tank has a cool airflow system and hasnt leaked st all so far.

Just one question, does anyone know if the tank has an upgrade option for an RDA in the future? And if not, what would you suggeust as a tank upgrade?

You could always look at the Lemo/Lemo Drop (made by same company that makes the Melo), or a Goblin/Goblin Mini
