These tests below only note the ESTIMATED ratings for these batteries at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.
Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of personal injury or property damage. They are not meant to be used outside of a physically and electrically protected battery pack. Never exceed the battery’s current rating and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Use of any of these batteries is AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never, ever, be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.
If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.
Test Results
These are the full production version of the Molicel M50A. You can identify them by the second character of the date code on the second line of the printing on the wrap. If the second character is a “K” then it is a 2020-dated production cell. If the second character is an “I” then it is a 2018-dated pre-production sample cell.
This Molicel performed well, beating the Samsung 50E, but not quite matching the performance of the Samsung 50G (which Vapcell rewraps as the G50). For comparison, the Samsung 50E delivered 10.3Wh of energy at 10A, the Molicel M50A delivered 11.3Wh, and the Samsung 50G delivered 12.2Wh. This Molicel’s 15A continuous current rating seems reasonable but I recommend staying at 10A or lower to increase efficiency and cycle life.
The capacity of the two cells I tested was 4968mAh and 4998mAh, easily meeting Molicel’s minimum capacity spec of 4800mAh. Since the cells I have cannot be the lowest capacity ones in the batch I am rating this cell at 4900mAh.
