Neither here nor there
It is the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down. I was just diggin through some stuff in a futile attempt at organizing my stuff, and guess what I found. My own chunk of the Wall. I bought it when I was in college, and Dayton's department store (former parent of Target, no longer exists) had these chunks for sale as mementos. I think I paid $10 for it. I remember digging through dozens of boxes and velvet pouches hoping to find a piece that had some graffiti paint on it, something that looked like something more than a chunk of concrete. The one I have has two different conglomerations of concrete on it, so I thought it was from a spot that had been chipped away, then repaired. Anyway, my dad thought I was silly for paying $10 for a chunk of concrete. Weird that I haven't seen this thing in years, and I run across it now.

Cant believe it's been 20 yrs already, makes me feel OLD!

Crazy isn't it?

There's just been a film festival in London commemorating it and I took myself along to a few of the films:

Wings of Desire - Wim Wenders - with Bruno Gantz (played Hitler in Downfall) and Peter Falk (!). Awesome film - there's a sequel too: "Faraway, so close!" which I will watch asap.

Germany Year Zero - Rossilini - Shot in the ruins of Berlin 1945.
Germany Nine Zero - Jean Luc Goddard. Erm, arty!

Recommend all of them, but Germany Nine Zero is hardcore Goddard - impenetrably arty. Not my sort of thing, but beautifully shot.
