Damaged-that is nice!

My ugly mod of a mod:
thPicture027.jpg

Removed all the guts-was able to get to the two wires that went to the battery pack to solder to this charger's wires. It works good for me when I am just sitting somewhere. I needed an 801 pt anyways.
I taped it up and it doesn't look good but it serves its purpose as a connector and switch holder.

Thank you much. I'm disappointed that I couldn't get the original project working like I wanted it to, but ended up with a pretty cool flashlight mod.

Now I just need some decent batteries. Got to order those today.

Around here Amber Bock is as cheap as Bud and Bud Light, so I've made the switch. My gut isn't too happy about it though! Since they're pry-off, it would make it tougher to keep the caps pretty. Hope you didn't take offense, I was just being a smartass, and it really does look good.

I'm really starting to like this mini-board, and it seems to be a pretty cheap way to add USB protected charging to just about anything. Next I'm planning to do a flashlight mod with an 18650 and remote mount the charging port... Just waiting for my 18650's which are on the rowboat from China!

FlipnOut the first battery I used (cell battery) lasted a little while I think I got 2 or 3 charges before it died and wouldn't charge. I took another identical cell battery and tried again but 1 charge and it died. I haven't fooled with it since so who knows the circuit could be bad. I don't think so though. I put the 1st battery in the phone and the phone won't even charge the battery. I'm going to look closer into it next couple days. I'll report back what I find.

Have you had a chance to dig into this? Mine's still running after five charges, hopefully I got lucky and dodged a bullet.

No offense taken. Sorry I haven't posted lately. I ended up cashing in that first flashlight mod and decided to do a new one which I'm very happy with. You can see it as my avatar pic. It's really great looking and the end piece is a filed down washer and a rubber grommet. The atomizer connection holds pretty good considering the metal is still there around the atomizer connector from the battery I pulled it from.

I was unable to get the metal off at the time, I guess I didn't read enough about getting those things out as I should have but I'm glad I didn't, cause it fits in that grommet nicely.

I'll try to post a bigger pic here.

do you think it would be possible to use the black button in the middle of the device as a kill switch to completely shut off the power to the device so you dont accidently activate it in your pocket? also is it possible to add a switch that would allow you to switch from the 5 volts coming out of the usb, over to the 3 volts coming from the flashlight? some times i am in the mood for 5 volts and some times im in the mood for lower voltage... also, if you wanted to make a box mod with this, could you add a 3.7 double a sized lithium ion battery along with the battery already on this for even longer use?

anyone know if that DigiPower USB device from Radio Shack would charge these batteries safely?

DealExtreme: $3.99 TrustFire 14500 3.7V 900mAh Rechargeable Lithium Batteries (2-Pack)

if so, is there anything that has to be done other than put it into the circuit? .... im sorry if i am asking repeat questions. i am planning out my first mod while i wait for my cases and batteries to arrive and i have a tendancy to go all out when i build something, lol.

I've only used the Digipower with a different li-po battery. No idea if it's safe to use with a li-ion. At the least, I think the boost circuit puts demands on the battery that those batteries you linked to probably wouldn't be able to keep up with. I'm not an expert, though, so I'm pretty much guessing here. I'd build it and see what happened, but then I'm reasonably okay with the risk of having something blow up in my face or pocket. Not to say that's what I think would happen, but I have a high risk tolerance, so I'd do things that I wouldn't recommend to others.

EDIT: Although....if you wire the battery to the atomizer circuit, rather than going through the boost circuit, I'm guessing you'd be fine.
