Finally got a few more RDAs in to try from a big ebay order, and had a chance to sit down, throw on a few different builds and compare. I've now got 8 26650 mods and batteries as well, so I'm able to compare these side by side.
So far my favourites are:
- Mutation XL
- Magma
- Tobh 28.5
- Asmodus (initially didn't like... changed my build and now lovin' it)
Good, but not great:
- Plume Veil
- Mephisto
- Tyr
- Veritas
Currently not digging:
- Stillare 3/5p
- Cerberus
- Zenith
- Wolverine
Haven't tried...
- Fogger v5
- Orchid v4
Here's a few thoughts I had while playing with these guys.
Magma
+ huge juice well
+ improved airflow over 18650 version
+ domed top cap
+ fairly warm vapour
+ decent vapour production
+ dual or single coil options
- small wire holes in posts
- still whistles a bit with AFC in place
- can short on post with AFC removed
Overall: I actually prefer this to the 18650 Magma. Has become my go to for flavour and for long sessions, as the juice well is enormous. Probably a solid 7/10 in all respects - perhaps the most balanced of all the 26650 RDAs I've tried, though not the best in any one category. Definitely worth getting.
Cerberus
+ looks great on Hades with hybrid
+ multiple top caps available (separately) to match your mod
+ warm vapour
+/- triple coil only
- flavour is only OK
- weak vapour production
- top cap design impedes air/vapour flow
- small juice capacity
- top cap is very close to positive post - I got a short with a longer drip tip
- positive post holes do not go through, making them almost useless
- tight build area
- coils need to be adjusted after building/wicking for proper airflow
- 510 is very short - didn't work on all my 26650 mods
- 510 still short in hybrid mode, needs to be screwed out all the way
Overall: I initially really liked this atty - but after building the others, I realized it wasn't very good. Weak flavour, low vapour, difficult to build and small juice well. I no longer use this.
Tyr
+ great flavour
+ warm vapour
+ domed top cap
+ easy to build
+ airflow under coils
+ center post is drilled in all 4 directions
+ super cheap
+/- quad coil only
+/- looks are hit or miss...
- cannot build quad 24g or lower due to small post holes
- low airholes leak
- center of juice well is lower than deck, meaning wasted juice
--- this also means that you need to remove the top cap to drip directly on the coils, or the juice you drip doesn't hit the wicks
--- the only option is to make very long wicks, but I found these dried out quickly and didn't work well
Overall: A well conceived atty for 26650, that produces some of the best flavour and vapour with quad coils. The big issue is the juice well, which makes it nearly unusable. I still use this when I feel like changing flavours every few hits, as it really needs to be dripped directly on the coils/wicks. If you're cool with that, and don't mind the looks, it's definitely worth picking up.
Tobh 28.5mm
+ decent flavour
+ improved airflow over 18650
+ awesome vapour
+ upsized posts and holes
+ can build dual 22g
+ deep juice well
+ fits a 26650 chuff
- Ummm...?
Overall: It's, well, a Tobh. Very similar to the 18650 version, and has been scaled up properly with larger posts and holes. Not as flavourful as the Magma or Tyr, but holds a decent amount of juice and chucks vapour. Although not fantastic for flavour, it chucks decent vapour, and lasts ages due to the good sized juice well. Also has that great Tobh look, and is fairly short.
Stillare 3 or 5-post
+ decent flavour and vapour
+ domed top cap
+ fits 26650 chuff
- tiny juice well
- tiny posts and holes
- coil legs need to be very long
- 5 posts but only 2 airholes?
- positive post only drilled in two directions
- leaks on me unless kept perfectly upright
Overall: Despite loving my 18650 Stillare v3, these should be avoided. When built right it can chuck decent vapour, especially with quad coils, despite the lack of extra airholes. In fact, the best setup for this is the 5-post with quad coils, as the vapour, flavour and warmth are the best. Still, I prefer other atty's to these in all respects.
Mutation XL
+ MASSIVE juice well
+ MASSIVE posts
+ MASSIVE post holes
+ MASSIVE airflow
+ MASSIVE drip tip bore
+ great flavour and vapour
+ adjustable airflow
+ domed top cap
- cooler vapour unless built super low
- non-removable drip tip
- 28.0mm
Overall: If you buy one 26650 RDA, get this one. I actually prefer the v1 style airflow control over the v2, as you can force the air to only hit the coil lower down or from below, as opposed to the angled AFC on the v2. If someone makes a v2 styled version of this with the Plume Veil post design, I'd get it in a heartbeat.
Plume Veil (1.5 style)
+ domed top cap
+ great vapour
+ decent flavour and warmth
+ deep juice well
+ easy build
+ large post holes
- delrin drip tip insert on mine was loose (until I glued it)
- something isn't quite right...
Overall: Despite loving my Plume Veil(s), something is lost in the translation to 26650. It's not as warm, dense or flavourful as the 18650 version, and maybe for that reason I don't really like it. It's still a decent 26650 RDA, though I'd recommend the others ahead of this unless you really want that Plume Veil vibe.
Other stuff I've got that I'll post about soon:
- Asmodus
- Zenith
- Mephisto
- Wolverine
- Veritas
- Fogger v5
- Orchid v4
