Well here is the thread to read for info on the RSST:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...oktech-rsst-genesis-rebuildable-atomizer.html

My favorite is 30 guage wire micro-coil with cotton double wicks. I use 80 VG/20 PG.

At the moment, I'm using a 1 ohm coil with .28ga using the Petar K method....(wrapping coil on a drill bit) Then a small amount of cotton through the coil. Its working really well...I've been trying to get away from ss mesh. Taste and vapor production are outstanding. 80vg 20pg is what I like.

Why are people getting away form mesh?

Mesh, from vendors, is expensive. If you have a cheaper source for mesh then you may be able to reduce your costs, but overall, cotton is much cheaper and easier to find. There's no shortage of cotton and pretty much any store will carry some some brand, whether it's cotton balls or cotton yarn (as a replacement for silica).

Cotton just works better overall, IMO. There's no wicking issues because it's like a sponge, it'll soak it all up in a heartbeat and there's really no waiting to vape. Dry hits hardly ever happen unless you simply used too much cotton. There's no oxidation process and since there's no other metal to deal with, you don't have to troubleshoot shorts (or the potential for shorts) as long as you build a working coil.

A 2x2 piece of mesh from most vendors ranges from $1.00 to $2.00, some do 3x pieces for $4-$5 so you save a buck, but nothing beats a bag of cotton balls for $2-$3 which is enough for 300-600 wicks, if not more.

More info on this build!
I like it.

Okay-

It is a 3/32 diameter micro coil with 30 gauge wire. I use 5/6 wraps, and usually they come out at close to two ohms. I generally fire them at 4 volts for 80/20 VG/PG. The double wick (one through wick, one through fill) came about when I tried to wick this with a single wick and the wick could not keep up with this vapor making machine. SO I run a single piece of organic cotton into the fill port, thread the coil, and then shove it down into the wick port. I make sure I push a paperclip on the fill port cotton side to leave a little air gap to avoid the vacuum effect.

Always lots of thick, rich, tasty vapor. Very flavorful. None of my other coil configurations with the RSST are this good.

I find that the cotton is tastier and delivers a more saturated juice level to the coil. I like mesh, but it can dry out.

Cotton wicks in my experience require replacement every 2-3 days, where my mesh wicks last about a week (sometimes more). Replacing a cotton wick only takes a few minutes, so changing it out every couple of days is no big deal. The mesh replacement, while less frequent, is less good flavor wise, and takes a bit longer to cut, fold, wrap, etc. and then put into the coil after a dry burn. Then I need to pulse the coil, check hot spots, etc. I use organic cotton balls from Walgreens and they are $4 for a big bag of 80. I have hardly dented the supply in the bag in a month or so of using them.

I do believe however, that learning mesh coils first is a good path to other wick methods. I am glad my first 6-8 coils were pure mesh.

Wow thanks, have any more pics?
I want to do this as my first build.

I have the same (but different ;) ) setup on a storm rider. Micro coil with cotton running through it and both ends going into the wick holes. Not quite as cramped a build on storm rider since there is not a lot of room to begin with. And if I may add, the one thing that I like about different builds or experimenting, is that as long as you check and do everything safely, you're good.

You gotta do the micro coil first. Phil Busardo has a review of the Russian where he builds one on camera. Once you build the coil, the wick is pretty easy. I will take step by step pictures on the next one.

Tapped out

I still dont know how you keep it wicking with just cotton. Care to elaborate more? Is there a video on this build?
