Hi! I am pretty new at using mech mods and ive been taking my Kamry K100 running with a Sony 18650 2100 mAh 3.7 V battery to a vape shop but I want to start making my own builds. Ive seen a couple builds online and but they dont say what gauge wire they are using. So my question is what is the best build I can make for my UD IGO-W using 28 gauge wire?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

First, a few questions for you.

1. Do you have an ohm reader or a DMM?
2. Have you read up on battery safety, ohms law, amp draw?
3. What ohm coil has your vape shop been building for you?

Below are some blog posts by Badditude (our battery/safety expert):

Sorry to say this. It's like asking I drive a Toyota Camry, what is the best way to give it a oil change. There is so much info out there on this mod and atty. I'll tell you this, dual coil 28 gauge 4/5 wraps cotton/silca, and 3/32 holes in top cap. Must use at least 30 amp battery.

I'm certain a mod will move this to the appropriate forum.

First of all, welcome to the forum. I'm pleased that you are asking questions here and not just blindly starting a build on your own.

Building your own coils requires having the essential tools and supplies, knowledge of mod and battery safety, a understanding of Ohms law, as well as learning the skill of wrapping coils. There are no shortcuts to be taken when it comes to building your own coils.

Do you already have an ohm reader? If not, don't even think about making a coil yet. This is an essential tool. You have to know the resistance of the coil you make to use an Ohm's Law calculator.

You need to use an Ohm's Law calculator to determine the current that it will draw from the battery. Drawing too much current from the battery can cause it to go into thermal runaway, an irreversable meltdown of the battery. You don't want that to happen. Batteries and mods have been known to blow up due to user error and ignorance. There is no margin for error.

Having gotten that out of the way, 28 gauge wire is an excellent gauge for this application. Below is a video on how to build a dual coil microcoil build on an IGO-W. You can use a coil wrapping calculator to give an estimation on the number of wraps to use for either a single or dual coil build.

I recommend just doing a single coil for your first build just to keep things simple. Remember, always check the resistance of the coil on a meter before you actually fire it under power. Any ohm lower than your target resistance, stop and make another. I recommend a target resistance of 1.0 ohm initially.

it's best to start out simple, using a single coil rba,, and become competent at building before going multiple. And once there, you'll be able to answer your own question, most likely. Thumbs up on choice of batt, and yes, when starting out, 28 is a great gauge to begin with. Holds shape well, quick heat up on most builds between 0.5-1.8 ohms, when using micro coils. Make sure and check out the Micro Coil thread. Tis where I learned to be competent quickly.
