So I have began creating a parts list an reading threads to begin building my own box mod.. I have an old 15$ soldering iron for Walmart and am looking to upgrade to a solid time proven iron.
my iron that i use the most is the weller wlc100 station. has worked great for years, and the only times i don't use it is when i need to use a gun instead or need a butane one. not too expensive either.
If you don't solder every working day, only occasionally, I would recommend a cheap chinese constant-temperature soldering iron. Choose power 60 watts - it allows to heat up very quickly. There is a lot of these irons. For example - soldering iron - Free Shipping - DX
Just choose needed voltage and power. 12-15 bucks - and you get almost real soldering station
Do you fly? I have the same iron from HobbyKing for about a year now. I have many many hours of use out of mine and still going strong * knocks on wood* It uses the Hakko 936 tips also. Highly recommend best 15-16 bucks you can spend .
