Hello everyone I just want some input or thoughts on the "best" mechanical mod out there.
I'm looking to try one, I know I need protected batteries, and that some wont work below 1.2ohm.

Can anyone post some descent mod for about $50~$100.

And any tips please, like dos and don'ts. And every thing I need to know.

Thank You.

Google "Wooliston Mod". It's a clone of the Magneto, it's about 40 bucks or so and even though its mechanical, it has very few parts to screw up. It's a bottom button with a lock but has no spring, the button is pushed out by magnets in the ends. It can also accept from 18350 to 18650 batteries and everything in between in the 18000 series because it's a telescoping mod.

Hcigar - makes one of the best on the market. Near perfect clone with near perfect performance.
Think Greek

But a unprotected battary can explode? Am I right?

Safe Chemistry Batteries (IMR) don't exactly explode - if majorly over stressed they can Vent, unravel and scare the hell out of you.

Lithium Batteries go BOOM!

1 of my first mechs was a EHPRO still got it and runs like a dream also a kts from ft good little mech people have funny ideas about battery's I have not got 1 aw imr in my box and as for the don't buy anything with fire in it well that's not true I got trustfire 18650 18350 184500 and 14500 protected and unprotected never put a kick or anything in any of mec mech think it all boils down to common sense just get your self a good charge that cuts of when battery's are fully charged and don't run them down to low when vaping a mech you will know when it wants charging with how it vapes

I use a Kamry K100 Mech with the Kamry resetting fuse

The batteries I use are AW 18490 or 18350 but vape with a 1.8 ohm Smoktech AVO tank. No RBAs yet--I'll get there eventually. For vaping/drinking/playing tunes--I load up an Efest IMR (LiMn) 2000mAH battery rated at 5C. Not sure if it will put out 5C or (5x2,000mAH)
but I don't need 10 amps. The little 350's are rated for 4 amps of draw so I'm at around half the max draw. Generally speaking, I don't like to tax a battery past half it's rated maximum for several reasons. First is voltage drop gets excessive, the operational life drops off drastically and as the batteries age, they lose capacity. Lost capacity means the batteries struggle to provide the output and the C level rises.

Eventually, I am going with 1.5 ohm clearo tanks and will give RBAs a shot with single/dual micro coils and cotton wicks. My plan is around 1.2 ohms but with variations--I don't want it to drop below 1 ohm. My battery of choice will then be the AW IMR 18650 1600mAH battery when doing the RBAs. Get a fully charged battery in the unit, fire it up and it could be hitting around 4 volts or so and blow past 4 amps easily. Even if I have brain damage that day, the AW18490 IMR battery can handle that even if it is an old battery. The little 350's--in theory, handle that also but I don't want to try!

I've only blown up one LiMn (IMR) battery, a Milwaulkee 28.8V 3.0 amp hour drill battery. Although I did not burn the building down, the very loud POP when it departed the earth did cause excessive pucker factor. After that, I went with DeWalt power tools and the A123 Systems LiFePO4 to solve that problem.

My dream mech does not exist--an Electric Angel type side firing switch mod with built-in automotive style fuse holders. Figure there is
enough space in the head to hold a 5 to 10 amp fuse and a spare when bad things happen. For now I use the Kamry resetting fuse or the 2 cent fuse--because my face and house is worth protecting.

Granted, I would love to build a quad coil RBA at 0.3 ohms and vape it. For that madness, I'd use a 26650 LiFePO4 battery since they can put out 30 to 40 amps without flinching. Getting a real one, a charger to charge the 3.2V cells and not cook things at 10+ amps and over 30 watts would be a challenge. With all those 26AWG coils in such a tight space surrounded by metal, you can bet I'd want a 15 amp fuse somewhere!

Everything breaks--coils, insulators and switches...fuses were not invented to make money but to keep the consumer alive to keep buying more stuff! Be careful out there and keep a spare fuse or three laying around.

I've used a lot of cheap and high end mechs and right now, as cheap one goes, I am very impressed with the magneto's performance. No misfires, adjustable center pin in the top cap. A down side is that it fires if I don't lock the button and leave it standing upright with a 18650.

Tip use non protected high drain imr batteries. Do not ever use a battery or charger with "fire" in its name. I use aw imr 1600 mah batteries. They have an amp limit of 24. Use a quality charger. Get a multimeter. Read baditude's blog before doing anything

You are right about using unprotected highdrain IMR batts (Efest or AW) but according to this, these AW IMR 1600 mAh 18650 have an amp limit of 16 amps, not 24.

A 16 amps limit is more than enough to fire any coil above 0.3 ohms... So... they are pretty good batteries.

I am currently using the SMOK Natural (about $55). I am happy with the performance of this mod. I sanded down the contacts to bare brass (the telescping 510 connection, lower battery post) in order to decrease the infamous "voltage drop" that this mod is apparently known for. Hits like a champ though. Sanding down the contacts made a HUGE difference.

Actually that says 15c. Read further down and it says a 24 amp rating
1600×15=24000=24amps
