You can't go wrong with a Nemesis Clone by hcigar! Did alot of research and bought one myself. I love it and you will too!
I bought the magnetic switch converter (for the bottom) and it works great! I have the two tone (SS/brass model).

If you're new to mechs, try a clone with a good reputation. You probably don't want to shell out $200 for something unless you know it's your thing. A lot of people go for the k100s from Kamry and they're decent. I have one thats still chugging along without ever having issues. There's a Maraxus clone available that is pretty high quality but the design and weight of the device is not for everyone. There are a lot of Nemesis and Chi You clones but some of them are garbage. As stated above, hcigar has a good reputation with both.
My first (and only, so far) mech is a SmokTech Magneto. Love it. Works very well, can accommodate any 18mm battery I want to throw at it. To me, it's a good starter.
if going clone I highly recommend the nemesis or the k100. both can be had cheaply and work great. As mentioned above you might want to upgrade to magnets on the nemesis the k100 is solid right out the mailbox.
I'm new to this too, but I agree with what everyone is saying. I bought my first mod about 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it, but i started out with a clone. I didn't want to drop $200-$300 just to try something not knowing if I'd like it or not. I bought a Chi Yu clone with a IGO-W RDA and I'm loving it so far. Loving it so much that I'm planning on upgrading to a "fancy" mod really soon. I'm thinking Panzer with a ZXenith RDA......
I have a K100 and an Astro clone. Both are solid without breaking the budget. I have a friend with a Panzer that was quite a bit more expensive but it is very nice and makes mine feel like something I made.
