I've been looking into buying a mechanical mod just as a hobby to like rebuild and stuff. I've been stuck on getting a mechanical mod but i started looking more into it and I figured I might as well get peoples suggestions on hybrid vs mechanical mods. I have a vv xhale k200. Its a piece of ..... It works great and all but its not very compatable. What would you suggest?

Well, if you are looking into rebuildables, awesome. I'd go for a simple Igo-L or and Igo-W. Both are easy to rebuild on a are inexpensive. If you are looking into getting a mod, the Smoktech Magneto is a good one to start with. It's telescoping and has a great switch.

Hybrid mods are mechs that generally come with, or are designed to fit a specific atomizer that is made for that particular mod. There is no 510 connection on a hybrid, they simply have large threading and no top cap. You screw the atomizer directly onto the top of the battery tube. Hybrids sometimes come with a 510 top cap for an additional cost, so you can use any 510 topper with it.

Mechs are generally sold just as a mech, drawing their power directly from the voltage of the battery. They generally come with 510 top caps. I hope this answers your questions.

I've been looking at the magneto because it has been suggested to me a few times but I came across this while looking for one on ebay. Tell me whatcha think Smoktech Zmax Telescopic Kit Stainless Steel Variable Voltage Wattage Mod | eBay

The Zmax is a good little unit, but it's different from a mech - it has circuitry in it that allows you to adjust voltage or watts (i.e., the output of the device). You can put this kind of control into a mech by using a kick in it which will allow you to adjust the wattage. There are also some safety features that the Zmax and kicks have over mechs alone (e.g., short and overdrain protection).

The potential drawback of either a regulated mod like the Zmax or a kicked mech mod is that you might be restricted in the types of coils you can build for use on them. I believe the Zmax won't fire anything lower than 1 ohm (i.e., no subohm'ing on it) and the kick won't fire below 1 ohm (V1) or ~.6 ohm (V2). If it's subohm vaping you're after, you're pretty much going to have to get a 'straight' mech.

That said, RBA doesn't necessarily mean subohm'ing - lots of people are into >1 ohm microcoils, for instance - so they can easily be used on the Zmax.

Since your post started out as a statement about wanting to get into rebuilding, the type of rebuilding you want to do should probably drive your battery device choice.

I agree with Papa here. If you are looking into getting a mech, then the Magneto is a good option.

If you are looking at regulated devices, then a Zmax would be a good option as well.

If you are getting into rebuildables, then you need to learn all about battery safety, Ohm's Law, amp limits, that sort of thing. You can rock rebuildables on regulated devices, really easily, you just have to build your RBA high enough so that it will work and fire correctly. For example, on my Kayfuns, I wrap a 1.2 Ohm micro coil so I can use it on my mechs and on my MVP. I also have drippers built to 1 Ohm and .7 Ohms to use just on my mechs. It really depends on how comfortable you are with Ohms Law, tinkering, and battery basics. Hope this helps!

Can't go wrong with a Kayfun and a Nemesis, Chi you, King, sentinel clones. Most popular and good for the money. I would HIGHLY suggest purchasing the lime green Sony 30 amp 18650s with a mech just to have if/ when you ever want to sub ohm in the future. Better to be overly safe with your batteries.. Those and the AW 18490s. My personal favorite battery. With an Efest smart charger. Yaaaaa buddie!

I want a simple device but the vv isnt something im completely opposed to. I am trying to get into the tinkering aspect of e cigs but I really have no idea where to start cause there is so much to learn. Where would you recommend?

Soooo what's an ohm?
