To the members of ECF. ShogaNinja and myself have a history of a fun, non-serious rivalry, or difference of opinions, primarily concerning the value vs price of a particular APV and its manufacturer. Our discussions and debates can get lengthy, but fear not that this thread will get hijacked any further than this. It's all in good fun. My bottom line is to present facts and not opinion.

And to Aoi~ , thank you for your opinion on a beginner not using a Provari with a rba, a recommendation based on real experience. You explained your reasons in a pratical and understandable way that would certainly be useful to the OP.

You make it sound like Provape has lousy customer service. Say it isn't so, Shoga.

First you say the Gripper is made of plastic, and then imply that because it has a "rubberized finish" (What's that, actually? A layer of paint?), that it will bounce off of concrete and not shatter into a hundred pieces. OK.

And yes, I have dropped my Provari on concrete. You were correct, it didn't bounce. But without a scratch because it was protected by my DIY rubber sleeve. It has continued to work flawlessly each time, because it was made to withstand such accidents. I don't even worry about dropping it any more; I just pick it up, do a quick inspection, and continue vaping.

I actually agree with you on this point. I've seen a couple of demo video's and studied the website for the Stallion, and I am quite impressed. However, the kit does sell for $175, and not $150. Impressive kit for the price, including 2 IMR batteries, an Xtar charger and USB/AC adaptor. Add in that it is USA built and appears to have the fit and finish of American-made quality and you have the makings of a great variable wattage APV. Finally there is something that might be competitive with the Provari. :p

I would have liked to have seen a longer warranty than just 6 months, or an option to extend it. It remains to be seen if Texas Select can keep up with supply and demand, and what their customer service will be like. But I'd rather put my money on them than any of the Far Eastern foreign manufacturers whose technology and quality of materials used leave something to be desired, and whose customer service is limited to non-existant.

Ahhh, good to see you again. You're an old friend by now :)

First of all a grammatical error you made is bothering me:
"Videos" doesn't require an apostrophe because it's not a contraction of the words "video is" (which is impossible in English), nor is it taking possession of anything in this instance.

I saw your little cheapshot. I am not the only one who doesn't like the Provari, I am just one of the more outspoken about it in a forum dominated by the mistaken belief that is awesome for everyone. (I'll get you back :) )

Notice you needed a little rubber booty for your Provari. Quick thinking on your part though. Nice work.

Lexan is a plastic that is bullet proof - you'll see it at gas stations convenience stores and drive through banks around the country. ABS is one of the strongest plastics in the world. I am not sure what KIND of plastic that the VV Gripper is made out of. I'm just trying to make a point that plastic is strong and when it's not brittle it won't break easily since it tends to give and bounce back (as opposed to most steels which will not bounce but rather dent). Rubberized means it's basically dipped in rubber, much like your little rubber Provari booty, but of course not removable. Most eGo batteries are rubberized and I have never damaged any of them before despite repeated drops onto the tile of my home (which is quite unforgiving) as well as many a concrete sidewalk. BTW: most cellphones are made of plastic and are good for more than a few drops, especially if you have a rubber case for them. In this case plastic is lighter than steel so the amount of damage that can be done is also lessened with the durability of the material (and of course the weight of the APV itself is lighter than a Provari which to some = comfort). The VV Gripper is more than durable enough. If you take an APV to war with you and you need it to be bulletproof then maybe something else would better suit your needs. As it stands, most of us don't run our APVs over with cars.

I can tell you've never owned an eGo. If you had, you'd realize how durable a rubberized finish is. Not that the plastic of a Gripper can't take the hit without the rubberized finish. It's just there to prevent scratches and add to the grip side of
the name Gripper.

I didn't say Provape has lousy customer service, I said that if you end up sending your Provari back to them outside warranty (which IS nice of them to offer) you will have no leverage whatsoever and be completely at their mercy as far as the cost of repair (and 2 way shipping, which of course you'd want to insure/get delivery notice on). I try not to put myself in those kinds of situations. I have said on numerous occasions that I believe Provape has a lousy business model, but that's another story for another time.

Yes, the Stallion does look pretty cool and, for the price, it does outperform the Provari (in battery life if nothing else - depending on your perspective). I too wonder why only 6 months on the warranty.

As for the shorting out thing, that's not a huge deal. The learning curve for making SS wicks is a little steep but it's not THAT steep. I think that having an APV for an RBA is pretty essential because making wick is NOT science and, therefore, subject to a bit of variance from wick to wick. This slack can easily be made up with the variable voltage or variable wattage APV. If one had a non-variable voltage device then the quality of vape would be subject to those variations.

Some people are into mechanical mods, others aren't. Some people are into "forever e-cigs" and are willing to pay for them, or take a loss in performance, others aren't. To each their own, which is why I said its best that we all decide for ourselves how best to spend our money. If it makes you happy, then you got a good deal. Happiness can be cheap or it can be expensive. It's kind of like wine. The price of a wine doesn't make it good. If it tastes good to you then that makes it good wine, no matter what the price (although I recommend you avoid your wine coming in a box :) )

all excellent points....i would also like to say that the stallion almost immediately sold out, and that since vapercon, has been basically rendered obsolete with the reveal of the DNA12 board....if you want true VW, you might as well wait for that, or use a kick, because you'd at least be able to tell what wattage you're at :p

The Evolv Kick has limitations: from battery size reduction (in some cases), to an amp limit that prevents it from having true freedom of use. They're cool, but they aren't limitless in their powers. An actual VW device will outperform it.

I had not heard of the DNA12. I will look into it. Thanks.

in certain situations the battery isn't limited, such is the case with telescoping mods or an extension ring, yes the amp limit is annoying, yes the battery voltage limit is annoying, but you can tell where your wattage is...to the best of my knowledge, you cannot do this with the stallion, which is why I brought it up...the DNA12 is the new evolv board that includes an OLED display and allows for higher wattage than the previous DNA board...it's still in beta, but functional...check the pbusardo vapercon video, the evolv guy had a mock up mod in hand to demo...looks good.
