This mod is useful, extremely easy to do, takes just one minute and costs nothing at all ! No special tools or shopping required. Easily reversible.

It solves the problem of not being able to see the LED light at the end of the battery when vaping. Being able to see the light helps us know when the atomiser is on (among other things) and arguably adds to the plasurable experience of vaping, along with the vapor. The mod makes the light much brighter too. Don't panic - no electrical wiring or soldering involved :)

Some background: I started out with a standard white 901 which I sanded to a brushed platinum look. I then used a black permanent marker to change the orange cartridge to black (this really works well). I wanted a cool gadget look rather than a cigarette look, and the mod described here adds to that - keeping the fun and usefulness of the light but reduces the cigarette-like aspect of it. The video reveals all ...

Oh, wouldn't you know it, my camera's batteries are flat :( Be back with the video, or at least photos, later (soon) ...

My first ever vid of this type ;)

The mod is easily and fully reversible, so give it a try, it only takes one minute. I couldn't show in the video how so much better the LED is visible to you when you vape. When you try it you will be surprised how much of a difference it makes.

If the cap doesn't easily fit, just hold it at first to see the effect. If you like it, sandpaper out the inside of the cart a bit until it slides on. If you dont like it, simply put the ash-effect cap back (a simple push fit).

Had many problems trying to upload it to YouTube so I have put the video file (windows movie format) on my own website :

http://www.beijingguide2008.com/mod1b.wmv

Only 10Mb so starts within a few seconds in your mediaplayer. Feel free to put it on YouTube if you wish.

Hey kinabaloo

Thanks very much (great natural presentation I thought btw)

Dunno why no one else has commented, I guess the experienced users might have their technique down, but as a newbie i was relying on the tip light as i learnt how to vape and as you note it is difficult to see (without going bozzeyed ;)). Your mod helped a lot and double win that it's reversible too for when I get my natural method sorted.

Maybe you could drop the link into the new user forum?

Anyway, you get the honour of my 1st post here :D, and thanks again.

Sleepa - Really appreciate your feedback. Sorry i didnt see your post till now.

I thought maybe it didn't work for anyone else because my 901 is slightly different in size and everybody hated me ;)

Welcome to the forum :)

ps: the grand title was just an in-joke, later when i thought it was not really that funny, fund i couldn't change the thread title :(

Great tip. I don't have a problem seeing mine but I've seen a lot of people post saying that they do. I have to warn you about using a mouthpiece that you colored with permanent marker, because if any e-liquid drips out of the cartridge, the permanent marker will smear and get all over your lips or in your mouth. I've even had some wear off on my lips without any e-liquid leaking. I think we might be better off getting some kind of spray paint for plastics, sanding down a mouthpiece so it isn't so smooth, and then spray painting it black. Hehe, reminds me of the Rolling Stones song, "Paint it Black," one of my favorites by them.

In words -

1) Prise off the ash-effect end cap.

2) Place an orange cartridge end-cap over the battery end. These things vary a bit. If a liitle loose at first a further push/twist may tighten it; otherwise, if you like being able to see the battery light up this way, use a spot of glue to hold it in place.
~thanks dc2k08

DChrist 721 - great song. And you're right about the marker; irrelevant thing for the mod and juice wipes it clean.

On a 901 there's no air inlet at the LED end and no hole in the ash-effect cap. I have no ideas about non-901s.

edit : well, i guess there is a chance that in putting the cap on, if there is a very tight fit, you could create a pressure inside the battery that holds, at least for a while. So do this with the atomiser disconnected. Once the LED is off you can safely reconnect the atomiser and it will be fine henceforth. Thanks Figurehead for pointing out that possibility.

excellent find! great work!
I have 4 batteries for my RN4080 that I use at work a lot. I noticed during a bright sunny day it's impossible to see the light on the end of my e-cig. I ended up using this trick, and then grabbing or palming with a closed fist the end of my e-cig, and you can clearly see the very edges light up perfectly bright. Now 2 of my batteries which I deem "daysmokers" are in use while I'm outdoors. Thank you!
