OK I set out to build a box mod based on the tutorial found here Ecigadvanced Vape-pocalypse: Radio Shack E-Cigarette | Ecig Advanced News it turned out looking great the only problem is.... that it doesn't work! I don't know where I went wrong but here is what I did. I followed everything he explained on the video all of the wiring is the same I used a resistor on the led and hooked all the wires up identical to the way he did. I put a battery in and pressed the button and the led came on. I screwed in my manager pro tank and pressed the button ... nothing happened, I unscrewed the tank and the light comes on again when the fire button is depressed as it should. Anytime the tank makes contact with the bottom of the 510 connector it will not heat the coil, the led will not light up until you unscrew the tank again. So the only differences between his and mine are that I used a prewired 510 connector and the battery. I am running at 3.6v 2200mAh. So does anyone have any clue as to what could be going on with it??? This is sooo frustrating I just want it to work any advice helps thank you all. The battery I am using can be found here RadioShack

Why is that the completely wrong battery its the same volts as a 14500 it just a higher mAh which just means it should last longer I don't have the money to buy a regular 14500

Yeah, I'm with the rest of these fine folks. Wrong battery and from the link you gave an AW 14500 is actually cheaper. It's not even a Li-ion battery or rechargeable for that matter. Probably lucky it didn't just blow up.
Brand/Series : TL Series
Capacity : 2400 mAh
Chemical System : Lithium-Thionyl Chloride
Dimensions : 1.988"H×0.571"Dia.
Primary Type : Primary (Non-Rechargeable)

Not only is that battery a primary (non-rechargeable) lithium battery, it's also designed for low-current applications, as many of those are.

It's maximum peak current rating is 200mA, and it's only rated for 100mA continuous current. That's far too low for an e-cig, which typically uses 2A and up, depending upon the particular setup.

Check out the data sheet, above. It would be wise to do that with any prospective battery purchase.

thanks for the help I found another battery at radio shack that works perfect.

I don't think you did. I just searched lithium at radioshack, 17 pages at 60 results per page and didn't find any suitable batteries. you say you can't afford a regular 14500 but the first one you showed was $19.59. RTD vapor has 14500s at $6.87 and cheap shipping. Don't play games with battery safety these things can and have messed up peoples faces. Buy quality batteries and learn how to handle them properly. A good place to start learning is Battery University.

I am pretty sure that these will work since all of the Vape shop sell them but will these work, I think $4 is a pretty good deal for 2 batts.
TrustFire Protected 3.7V 900mAh 14500 Lithium Battery (2-Pack)

Also where can I pick up a cheap charger?

Those batteries may work, but they are a poor choice for a single-cell 14500 mod. At 900mAh with a 1.5C max discharge rating, that's only a (900mA * 1.5 = 1350mA) 1.35 amp max discharge rating, which means anything at 3.1 ohms or less resistance on a fresh (4.2v) battery would be over the max discharge rating.

A good battery would be the one in the video, an AW IMR 14500. Or an Efest IMR 14500. IMR batteries can handle the current draw needed for e-cigs much better than the ones that you listed, and have a somewhat safer chemistry.

The cheapest charger that I could point out would be the TR-001 here:

ElectronicStix.Com · Mod Battery Chargers

I like the NiteCore chargers better. That site is the best I've found for my purposes.

Going too cheap, and unprepared, is not advisable.

There is also The Puck, a similar design that runs on 4 rechargeable NiMh batteries, which can be found in stores.
