Hey folks.
Title pretty much says it all. Invested in a collection of aw from rtd. Found that my el cheapo charger was getting them to 4.3. Figured it was time to invest. Most of the threads I found where pretty dated.
So... There's the nitecore d series. The pila (didn't research this one a lot) or the xtar.
Finding pros and cons to each. What's your up to date opinion?

I have a Nitecore D4 and I love it, I'd recommend it to anyone! When you put your batteries in it tells you their current voltage and charges them to 4.20 v. Plus it has a bunch of other features, like how long it took to charge etc. I haven't even went through and saw what else it has but it just works.

Pila is the best of the best, however it only has two bays.

X-tar WP2-II is a great charger, I've had mine for several years now and it is still working flawlessly and is my at work charger for myself and my co-workers.

The VP2 I bought to replace it at home does a fine job, but you have to maually select the chargiong rate if you want anything over .25amp charge and it will overcharge the cells (it gives if you select the wrong battery voltage (it has a slider for 3.2. 3.6 and 3.8 volt batteries. Selecting 3.8 will resultin cells with a finished voltage of 4.3-4.4!).

If I had it to do again I'd either buy a Pila or another WP2-II.

I never bought or used a Nitecore, I've seen too many bad reviews on them.

Another endorsement for Xtar here. I have had the vp1 for over a year, hundreds of charges and it's still going strong. Never even been warm. The VP1 came with a 2 year warranty (VERY limited lifetime) Which gave me a little peace of mind. Xtar's prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for and if you're buying AW's why not get the best charger you can to charge them with. I'm thinking of getting the vp4 as an upgrade soon though.

I have two Pilas, a Nitecore digicharger D2, an Xtar 2bay, and an older Xtar 6bay. I have never been overly impressed with my 2 Pilas. My other chargers were less expensive, and work better. One Pila had a dead bay after about 3 months, and neither one of them have ever charged a battery to 4.2v, where my other chargers would. YMMV.

Its all pretty much luck or should I say bad luck for me. Like all things massed produced there is going to be a DUD and usually I get it. I had a Xtar for a couple years, then It had problems. Got a Nitecore and it had a couple bays go bad. Got a replacement from Amazon even though it was past the 30 days they replaced it. ( I love Amazon)

Needed a charger so I got the Efest Luc. Great charger, great price. BUT, I had the LED screen go out after Kitty knocked it off table. Amazon replaced it, no questions asked. Its been going great for months now.

I tend to get most of certain things from places like Amazon because they are so huge they dont really care about the "whys" of things going bad. I feel safe buying things like chargers there. In fact I buy most of my electronics and big ticket items from them, even if its a bit more expensive ( which is rare) because you know you are never stuck with a DUD.

the 3.2 and 3.8 voltage settings are for different types of batteries. for 4.2 volt batteries like we use for vaping, you'd want to set it at 3.6 and then use whichever amp charging rate you prefer/battery can handle-if set at 3.6 volts, it will not charge over 4.2 volts.

set it to 3.6 and never move it. problem solved indefinitely.
