I'm really considering getting into sub ohming now that it's getting easier 2 do. I'm thinking the I stick 50 W would be perfect. Are there any other good options for around 100
Any of the major brand 30w mini devices would work for you, since the Subtank really doesn't need much more than 25w to shine, even with the RBA. And the iStick 50w would give you a lot of battery life in a fairly compact package with some room to grow, but when it's out of power, you're either going to have to wait about five hours, or vape while attached to a cord.
However, in March or April I think we're going to start seeing mini form factor single and dual 18650 devices with the Chinese knockoffs of the DNA 40 temperature control board
really flooding the market. Wouldn't be surprised to see a Sigelei Mini 40w TC, Cloupor Mini 40w TC, all using the existing chassis with the new electronics, and at about the same price point.
That would really give you a lot of options in terms of more power and more flexibility with Kanthal coils (better regulation, better step down, wider operating range than a DNA30-based board). And you could do nickel wire builds on the RBA that comes with your Subtank, or buy the inevitable pre-built nickel coil heads, and never have to worry about a dry hit again, or overcooking your juice, and get more battery life in the process.
So if it were me in your shoes, I wouldn't wait for the next big thing, I'd jump right into the Subtank just to see. But knowing it's just around the corner, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a mod right now either, even if that meant giving up a feature or two that I could get in a more expensive mod right now. I'd use the savings for my next-gen budget.
