Best Quasar Build

I have a new authentic copper Quasar that I am ready to build. I have been looking around the forums to get an idea of preferred builds on the Quasar and while I know it's all preference the parallel coil with 26g at around .3 ohms has been brought up a few times. I want to know your favorite build for the Quasar being as specific as possible (type of coil, gauge, ohms, etc.) and why you like that particular build so I have some ideas on what type of build I would like to try. Thanks!

Hello and welcome!

The Quasar rda is built more for flavor than anything else, so keep that in mind when making coils. Also, the device you're running it on matters as well; can you control the power output, or are you using a mechanical mod?

26ga dual parallels are a super cloud chasing build, but the airflow on the Quasar may not be enough to keep the vape cool enough for you. I use a regulated box mod, and right now on my Quasar I'm running a single, triple-twisted 28ga coil at .5 ohm and 60 watts. It's flavor country for days.

Agree with above. Keep in mind the airflow on the quasar when building.
My preffered quasar setup is:
6 wraps of 28ga around 2.8mm screwdriver shank
comes out to 0.5Ω
wicked with rayon
Most pure, intense flavor I can get from any atty

edit: stingray/quasar combo is the hotness IMHO

So I have been waiting to build this because I have been waiting on an ohm meter, but it's been delayed because of the snow. I picked up a multimeter to try a dual 2.4 mm coil with 28g and 6-7 wraps. I can only get the ohms down to about .8 even with some tweaking. I am new to the building part of this so I know I have some learning to do in terms of what to tweak to get it down further, but just testing it as is using a Rayon wick I get no flavor from the atty. It definitely needs to get hotter. Any additional suggestions in the meantime would be helpful, but I am going to do more homework. I do have 26g and 24g kanthal ready to try as well, but I think I will stick with either the 28g and 26g for now to see how that goes.

So I did another build with the 26g kanthal, 2.4mm coil, and 7 wraps which I can still only get to about .6 -.7 ohms. Lots of clouds, but not a lot of flavor :( Anyways, I took pictures of the piece and the build.

I'm still going to continue to update this even though it seems like I'm the lonely cheese. So, I got my ohm meter today and either that is incorrect or my multimeter is, but the ohm meter read .35 and my multimeter is between .4-.5. Regardless, I'm still not impressed with the taste. I had my friend's Vulcan on my to compare and the flavor on his is very full. Mine is slightly present in the beginning and that's it. The cloud is the only thing that is decent on my build.

Checking in since you're on the front page :)

Those are some nice looking coils! I'm glad you're finally getting the flavor you were after. Kind of strange that centering the airflow off the coils is getting it done for you...but if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

My only other suggestion to you would be to try a center post build. Google it and you'll see plenty of videos. With centered coils and airflow it should really be on point for you. Worth a shot.

I had actually bookmarked a center build posted by Vapourz_411 who also just happens to have a Stingray and Quasar. I built it with 26g kanthal and 5 wraps around 2mm. I set the coils slightly above the afc. This is definitely the winner so far. I still had trouble with the previous build and this center build gives me the flavor and vapor I was hoping for. I'm extremely satisfied now.

As an additional note, I was never able to remove the inner "jacket" from the outer "jacket" from the atomizer. It was stuck on good. So every time I went to drip, the whole top would pull off and since its a smaller deck it also would pull the rayon a little which was annoying since I would have to fix it every time. I brought it to the owner of my local vape shop to help out and he ended up putting a rubber handle of a brush into the shell opposite side of where the drip tip is and then hammered the top of the brush to get the inner section to come loose from the outer. There was a lot of oxidation from the copper that we had to clean off, but even after it was way too tight. We ended up removing the bottom o-ring from inner stainless steel piece and left the top one on (we tried it with removing the top and keeping the bottom and that didn't work). We did not touch the o-rings on the copper piece. This finally allows me to just pull on the drip tip to take the inner piece out to drip while leaving the outer piece still on the atomizer.

I've had my quasar for about a two weeks now. I got the black delrin version to match my black sigelei 150 watt box mod. I'm getting great flavor from it with a .62 ohm build, 3/32" inner diameter, 9 wraps, 26 gauge kanthal, dual coil, at around 45 watts. If I were gonna use it on a mech I'd probably shoot for about .3 - .4 ohms. My top cap is pretty stuck on there as well, I stopped trying to get it off, but I think I'm gonna try to get it off again after seeing that you managed to get yours off. I find I have to drip pretty often with the tiny deck and shallow juice well. Being able to take just the top cap off to drip would make it alot nicer to use this thing.

Love the piece, Emily! The copper and stone look beautiful together. Definitely my taste.

I don't know why I had so much trouble with my previous build since it was probably similar to yours. I have an Astron in SS as well which is the follow up to the Quasar. Since they are pretty similar, I think I am going to do a few different builds on that to see if there is a difference. But I am totally happy with my center build right now on the Quasar.

I haven't tried my mod in 350 or 490. Do you notice any differences between having it in 350 vs 850?

The mod is force patina'd brass (by Mark Howard/Dready's Mod Spa, certainly not by me)

Just bc the amp rating is lower on the 350s, I can't build as low as I would like to.
But gosh it's cute when it's tiny.
