I have 6 sony VTC5's. They are all going through an xtar vp1 charger.

The charger has charging options of .25 amps, .5 amps, and 1 amp.

I have read that 18650 batteries need a higher charge rate due to some type of circuit(not sure if right word) or something in the battery.

I have charged them at 1 amp for the past few weeks with no problems, however I just read that .5 amp charging rate will prolong their life and treat them better. Is this true? I thought charging too low on a bigger cell like this would be bad.

The slower/lower the charge rate, the easier it is on the batteries.

The Sony US18650VTC5 can take a huge charge rate however so even at 1 amp, you really are not even approaching that battery's limits.

If you have the time, slow is best (.5 amp charge).

thanks for response! i will charge @ .5 from now on
