Hello Just wondering about what best wicks 100% VG juice. I haven't had much chance to use anything other than 400 mesh. had some good success by using a dual wick on my did clone with 100% VG juices. But, in general, Ive been wondering if there was a grade of mesh that performs most effectively with VG. Would the mesh need to have a higher percentage of open space or less open space for the capillary action to lift the VG from the tank to the coil? My main wonder is how the percentage of open space on the mesh effects the wicking of 100% vg juices.

BJ43 did a study that showed 500 was the all around winner in http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/330407-500-ss-mesh-208.html#post7146944, with 400 following, and 325 in the rear. He also found that a very dense, no-center-hole wick, made of 500, was even better. He has since studied 635, but found that it's not really worth the extra expense, especially for a Wick shorter than 2 inches long.

For 100% VG especially, but still better with any other E-Liquids, the smaller the wire gauge, and the less space between holes in the mesh, the better it is for Wicking via Capillary Action (that's the Physics of it, according to BJ - especially the smaller hole spaces in the mesh). His no-center-hole wick helps to stop the Spitting and Popping, and the more densely wrapped (packed) it is, the better the Wicking (Capillary Action). The no-center-hole wick is better for Sucking Up (Capillary Action), and having a center-hole is better for Feeding Down (Gravity Flow).

To Sum it all up for you, for a very dense wick, BJ said, I can fit 70mm of 500 SS Mesh into a 3/32” (2.38mm) slot/hole,

Therefore…
X
about 93.3mm into a 1/8” (3.18mm) slot/hole,
about 88.2mm into a 3.0mm slot/hole,
about 81.6mm into a 7/64’ (2.78mm) slot/hole,
about 73.5mm into a 2.5mm slot/hole,
about 70.0mm into a 3/32” (2.38mm) slot/hole,
about 58.5mm into a 5/64” (2.0mm) slot/hole,
about 50.0mm into a 1/16” (1.59mm) slot/hole,
about 44.0mm into a 1.5mm slot/hole (Vivi Nova without modification).

Bias Cut the Mesh for U-Shape Wick, like for a Vivi Nova.

A Small paper clip is about 0.77mm in diameter (digital caliper).
A Large paper clip is about 1.01mm in diameter (digital caliper).
