I have been vaping for a while and am quite enjoying it. I have moved from ego's and evods to a nice new mvp with a nautilus and pro tank 3. I see how folks are rebuilding their coils on those and while that really does not interest me, taking the next step does. I would like to stop buying coils for the clearomizers (and the duds) and start making my own. I have been looking through this forum and countless YouTube videos and its kind of overwhelming. I am looking for something that my mvp would be able to power, for now, and something that has a glass tank. Many thanks for your suggestions.

Well, if you're looking for inexpensive, the Fogger would probably be the way to go except that it's demanding on the build since you have to get the cotton just right. It's also dual coil and those tend to be difficult to start with since the coils need to be matched. It's easier with a micro coil since you don't have to worry about the pitch of the coil wrap. But, if you get it right, it kicks some .... and will give you pretty close to dripper performance.

Generally, it's better to start with an Igo-L or Igo-W4 to get some coiling skills since it's less painful to tear apart a dripper than a RTA. 'Course, that also depends on the individual. If you have the stones, go for the Fogger but be prepared for some learning experiences.

^ Same here, I use a kayfun and an RSBT (glass tank on this one) on MVPs and they both work great with it. I probably wouldn't get a Fogger as a first RBA, they are not for beginners imo, tough build.

Edit: Honestly I probably would go with a dripper to start with. An Infinite Magma is pretty cheap (around $25) and is a great atty, and it's easy to build on.

A "glass tank." Mega Aerotank or Aerotank will work well for you. I hope you are using the BVC coils on your Aspire. I guess you have the ole iclear 30 as well. It a flavor beast but has complications. I followed your same progression. I rebuilt many stock coils and have recently done so using Rayon with great results. Once you find rbas and rdas you will not look back but keep going on your path. The Aerotanks are usually sure fire devices and easy to refill.

Thanks folks, for the advice. I was looking at the AGA-T2 Rebuildable Atomizer Tank (Genesis Tank) because I can get one fairly cheap. Here is the next question. Kanthal wire gauge. Would I be able to use Kanthal A1 Heat-Wire (30') to get something in the 1.5 ohm area? Should I go thicker or thinner? Any advice on where to start with this in the way of wraps? Powered by an mvp 2.My goal here is not to blast huge clouds (yet). My goal is to have a comparable vape to a mini pro tank that I don't have to keep buying coils for and learn.

I use a Kayfun Lite+ with my MVP. Just don't use anything bigger that 28g wire and you'll be fine.

What kind of coil are you building? @ what ohms, etc.

I tried building on my Tohb clone on my MVP2 and I could barely get the coil to fire under the 10 second cutoff.
Curious to see what people are saying, because I tried building on my MVP for a couple of weeks until I decided to get my iPV2

I don't have one but I think that would work fine. With genesis attys you setup the mesh wick first and then wrap your coil vertically around that. They are kind of different from most RBAs where you usually wrap the coil first and use cotton or rayon instead of mesh. You can start on a geni but the learning curve may be a bit steeper than it would be with other RTAs. The wicks and coils are more tricky to set up right imo, especially on an MVP.

If you want something like a protank check out the Smok RSBT. It is a whole lot like an aerotank, except it's designed to be rebuilt. Has a pyrex tank, airflow control, holds about 3ml of liquid, has a metal case to protect the glass and works fine on an MVP. I use mine with a 2 ohm 30 gauge coil (don't remember how many wraps but it has 2mm id).

I've used coils as low as 1.3 and as high as 1.9 on my MVP. 30g heats up faster but 28g is easier to build with.
