I'm looking to upgrade my setup. I currently have an Eleaf istick 40 w with a cubis pro tank vaping 0.5 coils at 28 watts but am craving more.

My question is since I'm fairly new what is the best mod/set up for a beginner only in it a few months.

I'm hoping to find something preferably with an internal battery that can go up to a higher wattage with a good tank combo as I've never dealt with batteries.

Thanks for reading.

Easiest answer to that for a simple but powerful DL kit would be a Smok Alien or their new AL85. Both, however, require a battery (2 for the Alien). However, batteries should not be scary. Simply buy a quality battery and you'll be OK. It also protects your investment for the day when the built in battery will no longer hold a charge and the mod becomes a paperweight (all Li batteries eventually no longer hold a charge). The Baby Beast tank with the Alien/AL85 (the smaller brother) is well regarded by DL vapers.

Here's a guide to batteries with a list of reputable dealers on the bottom from Mooch, our battery expert.

I have a Kanger Subvod, but the specs sound similar to what you're already using. It's geared toward beginners, especially those just getting into sub-ohm vaping. It's an ego style battery, 1300 mah, 3.7 v. The manual says it can go up to 60 watts, but it's probably only doing around half that. The standard coils are .5 ohm. It's a pretty nice setup, but probably not what you're looking for.

Get a good mod that will handle most tanks you can throw at it. Finding one that doesn't require external batteries will severely limit your options. May as well take the leap and then work on satisfying your cravings by trying different tanks of which there are a plethora of choices.

I am also a fan of the Alien, and you may as well get the kit with the Baby Beast. If you like that tank and the vape it gives you, there is the Big Baby that will give you the same results while holding more juice. If it leaves you still craving more, just look for different tanks and don't worry about what mod to get. And your Baby Beast will still work nicely for a back-up tank and/or for changing flavors.

Imho a iStick is a good choice. If you really want a new battery, check out the eLeaf Pico.
but maybe it was better for you to not to buy a new battery but a new atomizer?
maybe a rebuildable one, e.g. a RTA (=rebuildable tank atomizer)?

If you decide to buy a new battery (=mod), take an eLeaf or Joyetech mod. best choice, best for the money and for a beginner!

Although they are both near the top of my wish list I really don't thing a beginner needs to carry around that monster or would be comfortable with it.
TFV8 wouldn't be too bad but stay away from anything made by wismec. I agree a beginner definitely doesn't need or should even want a quad 18650 mod.
