I only clean mine when they clog or if I have to get rid of a foul taste.

I soak mine in Everclear (Grain Alcohol) for at least 24 hours. I left one soaking for a week. I gently blow to evaporate the alcohol, and vape. This has been working for me ever since I started vaping. However, I can't guaranty it will work for you.

I HATE the taste of a new atty, so could I use this technique to get rid of that new atomizer "dead ..." taste?

This works for me:

For 801 atty, stand it up on a saucer, cart side up, and fill it with thinned glycerine. Let it sit for an hour or so, then drain it, blow it out and wipe it down. It's now ready to use.

For 510 atty, wrap aluminum foil around the bottom so that it makes a little cup with a flat base, sort of like a candle holder, so that it will stand up. Fill with gycerine, etc., same as above.
