No, just the width, since the wider the wick the more wire you end up using per wrap. Ekowool is hollow so I would just stick a straightened out paperclip and thread it thru for stability while I wrapped the coil. Also probably why I get consistent ohms. What wick do you use?

So does the material used govern the end ohm?

The material of the coil makes a massive difference. The material of the wick makes none.

The spring in your ink pen will be steel. You will end up with a dead short across your battery. You do not want to do that.

Nichrome and Kanthal wire are specifically formulated to have high resistances, several orders of magnitude greater than almost every other sort of metal. So you can only use those materials for a coil.

Resistance increases with length and decreases with cross-sectional area. So a long piece of thick wire can have the same resistance as a short piece of thin wire.
