7075 underwent some intensive maintenance tonight. It wasn't hitting quite right and while the brass develops "character", the aluminum just gets kind of nasty, lol. I started with a rag, old toothbrush, and Brasso. Then hit it with a green 3M finishing pad (all I had on hand) and a hot water rinse. Then ran everything through the ultrasonic with 70% isopropyl, and another hot water rinse. 7075 is almost back to new condition and hits like a beast.

Dayum!!!

That thing was filthy!!!

You did a helluva job cleanin' her up, though. :thumb:

Good as new! Nice work, buddy! :D

I ride 'em hard and put 'em up wet. It is a testament to your mods as to how much abuse they will take and how easy it is to bring them back to life. From start to finish, I had maybe 20 minutes into the effort.

This is a great illustration of how to clean one up. :thumb:

I would recommend some Deoxit around the top rim of the body/underside of the cap. :)

Really good stuff, my man! Thanks for sharing it with us! :D

I definitely need to Deoxit the contact points. I have some Noalox somewhere but couldn't find it. Ordering the Deoxit Gold pen from Amazon in 3...2... 1...

Nice! :D

The Deoxit pen is perfect for this! You can just "draw" it on, around the top rim of the body. It's also perfect for reaching down in the battery hole to hit the brass negative contact. :thumb:

While I had the lathe goin' this evening,....I decided to go ahead and turn some buttons.....

The pen is nice, but I got a 7.4 ml brush bottle of deoxit D100L for $12! Pretty good deal I think. In the past, I've had regular D100 and also had gold. While gold is better, most of the time, it's way more expensive.

Hopefully that 7.4ml bottle lasts me a long time. Russ has had a brush bottle for over a year and barely made a dent in it.

I spread that good stuff all over my CC,
It helps. You already know that though.

I've never had a pen though, I do think it would be handy.

Corey, how long have you had your pen? And how often do you use it? Not that I need one,I just got that fresh new bottle. But maybe you can convince me that I need one. ;)

Two questions:

Is that kind of oxidation inherent with the 7075/is the 6061 better about oxidation?

and

Corey, where did you get that other parting bit that I've seen in a few other pics (I think it's a 1mm/.040")? I can't seem to find a good 1mm parting/cutoff tool. Or maybe it's the same bit but it looks wider in this pic?

Thanks,

Drew

Oh yeah, Nate, don't clean up your brassy! I'm waiting on some bear tex pads, and I'm not quite sure I want to clean mine up yet, will probably use them on the inside of the mod where needed... And I know I will clean her eventually, but I wanna see how cool of a patina I can get. It's already starting to patina.

Got a pic of your brassy from very recently? You've had yours way longer, it's probably got a cool patina. Unless you've already cleaned it before!

Thanks buddy

Mark, here you go brother... these are real time pics, lol. I haven't done a thing to it since I received it. The patina doesn't really develop much past this point. I do look forward to cleaning it up and having it progress to the antique brass again.

I've had it for about a year. I use it pretty regularly. All the mods go out with it applied to the positive and negative contacts. Still going strong... :)

Hey, buddy. I run two mods. A 6061 and a 7075. I don't really notice any difference in buildup on one versus the other. I'm pretty serious about not letting juice get between the cap and body, and just sit there, though. I Wipe 'em down with a slightly damp paper towel and dry 'em off real good, every day.

That's not absolutely necessary, but I like a clean, dry mod. :thumb:

The parting blade I was using, and still use on the PEEK, is a .040 from littlemachineshop dot com.

The thicker one I've started using on the buttons is a .0625

It's a lot more rigid, so it works better for the metal buttons, especially. It's a P1 A.R. Warner. I got it at LMS, as well. A little pricey, but worth every penny. :thumb:
