Well,...the kids got their W-2's today...

They're both convinced that uncle sugar's gonna be givin' 'em back thousands o' dollars in refunds....

Given the fact that I did not receive the copper bodies and caps from the machine shop today,.....I guess I'll play CPA, and try and get these jokers some monies......

Wish me luck.....

You're plenty lucky. They're working instead of just mooching off you, right? ;)

Kids today work?

Where?

Who?

Not in my neighborhood, they get their nannys to do their bidding

Jeeeeesh, I even have to shovel my own snow, the kids around here get allowances that look like executive paychecks, so no need for them to work

The world has changed a bit since I was a kid

Phht, try to find some to buck hay! A friend that is a farmer said no way could he find any to do hard sweaty work. On a good weekend sun up to sun down both days I could make $100 one nickel at a time. For a teen in the '70's that was a lot of cash. Could pull down $15 or so on a week night after school. <=geez I sound like my old man huh?

Indeed, my good man. :)

They both know that it's important to earn what you have, and not wait around for someone to hand it to you. Good kids... :thumb:
Hells yes my friend! I'm working hard to try to instill those values in my little guy. He is only 7 and I bet he has already earned I said earned more money than the teenagers around here. Maybe even some of the adults.

Lol, this whole "kids don't work" stuff must be centralized to cities? In my neck of the woods - never seen any true life examples of such rhetoric. I started work as soon as legally able to do so, and actually know nobody growing up that didn't

Rural FTW? Who knows :w00t:

ETA heck there are tons of 16 year olds on my local fire department even...

My daughter, who is 24 and a nurse now, gave me one of the proudest moments of my life.

She was the type to sleep till noon if you let her but one Saturday morning, the first day of summer vacation between her junior and senior year in HS, my wife and I were awakened by a phone call. I answered and it was a mans voice asking if Morgan was available. My first thought was why was an adult male asking to talk to my 16 year old daughter, so I started asking questions.

He said he was the owner of a local cafe/deli and when he had arrived that morning at 6am she had been waiting at the door and asked him about applying for a job. He told her that he wasn't looking at the moment but thanks for asking. She told him that she would work for free for the day so he could see if he would be interested in hiring her and he said no thank you. She gave him our home number and said if he changed his mind to call.

The more he thought about it, the more he admired her ambition so he called and took her up on the offer. She ended up working there off and on through graduation.

After I hung up with him that morning I had to go check her room and make sure he was talking about my daughter. Couldn't have been prouder, and still am.
