My daughter, who is 24 and a nurse now, gave me one of the proudest moments of my life.

She was the type to sleep till noon if you let her but one Saturday morning, the first day of summer vacation between her junior and senior year in HS, my wife and I were awakened by a phone call. I answered and it was a mans voice asking if Morgan was available. My first thought was why was an adult male asking to talk to my 16 year old daughter, so I started asking questions.

He said he was the owner of a local cafe/deli and when he had arrived that morning at 6am she had been waiting at the door and asked him about applying for a job. He told her that he wasn't looking at the moment but thanks for asking. She told him that she would work for free for the day so he could see if he would be interested in hiring her and he said no thank you. She gave him our home number and said if he changed his mind to call.

The more he thought about it, the more he admired her ambition so he called and took her up on the offer. She ended up working there off and on through graduation.

After I hung up with him that morning I had to go check her room and make sure he was talking about my daughter. Couldn't have been prouder, and still am.

Thank you my brother, she is. Since then she graduated with a BSN from Jacksonville University (with honors) and now makes more $ than her dad. Not to mention, she's the mother of 2 great kids and soon to be a third.

It's a boy, due in March. I'll suggest the name but not so sure how that'll go over ;)

A multi generational family trip to a mountain resort might be nice one day, maybe I'll suggest that instead :)

Do it! I'll make fondue and nut milk for us and homemade apple sauce for the newborn :)

Wow! That's awesome, B! Congrats on doin' it right!

I tell people that my kids got their looks and brains from me, I'm pretty sure that's the case since my wife still has hers :D

I think too many of the problems we see in kids these days (as well as an awful lot of "adults") is a sense of entitlement. They have the impression that the world owes them something. That, IMO, is a huge part of the problem in the U.S. Today. If you can get it instilled that no one owes you anything and if you want something you need to work for it, your doing it right.

Popping in to say hi! I've been so happy with my set up. Gone are the days when I'm perpetually crawling around ECF trying to find something else to buy.

Happy bird is happy.

HAHA my virgin co-op hosting! Look at that.

I have to say, that sigelei 100W continues to surprise me. It's been what? A year? Damn thing still works like a champ. granted these days I'm just using it as an ohm meter [emoji23] can't do tanks or dripping anymore I'm afraid.

You hit it on the head Brian, I have a couple of adult nieces that have been given everything from birth through college, and still, after $200K in college tuition being handed to them, still leave their dishes on the table expecting their mother to pick up after them

I hate to be that lame, grumpy dude who judges others parenting styles but it's true and as an innkeeper I've seen it all. Particularly this one group of about 5 families that stays in the summer. My first summer here I suffered a week of these kids running around breaking windows, screaming, leaving candy all over the floors of common buildings...it was atrocious...I stood up to that family and the next summer they were much better about it (in fact they were angels but I think that was the threat of being thrown off property if it happened again :glare:)

Those parents were giving the world to their kids and letting them ruin it for others, and they literally saw no wrong with this.

Beautiful story B2. Every right to be a Proud Papa right there.

Even though it worked out a bit better, I cannot like this. A good old fashioned .... whipping would cure that behavior. But we can't have kids being accountable for their actions or punished or anything these days. They call it child abuse.

^This I don't necessarily agree with. I don't think kids need to be "whipped" to encourage good behavior (maybe depending on the kid eh?). The problem as I see it is when people take the opposite approach which is essentially hands off. The overly "academic" approach, really - which in this particular case was absurd, because the parents did not and probably still do not see anything wrong with letting their kids have free reign - free reign of the house I am sure, even when the house is not theirs. And look I'm no parent, nor do I intend to ever be one to be perfectly honest. I do feel kinda bad sticking my nose into parenting methods - but to have no bounds, no accountability...their kids are growing up without respect, and they'll likely not earn any, either.

USPS has been holding two black stumpys hostage for about 2 weeks...I have reason to believe they will finally make it here tomorrow, and Brassy's gonna get a rub down with scotch brite for the occasion. Anybody else put a black stumpy on brass? I'm imagining it is going to be gorgeous :w00t:
