For cleaning, yep, Simichrome. But it doesn't do much for lubrication. I've found no panacea for that. I've tried just Renaissance Wax, a light coating of Militec-1 grease, Eeezox, etc. None have made metal buttons entirely maintenance-free, and I doubt anything ever will. This time I used a bit of Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant, just to see how it does. Another thing I've been meaning to try is some graphite lock lubricant.Indeed!
Very important to keep the button and button hole clean and preferably waxed.
Not necessarily waxed, but something to inhibit the formation of oxidation/patina, and to also act as a lube. Prevents sticky situations...
What did you use, Ross?
