:D

That's me try'na make up for that horrid bottle I sent him last time...

It was, at the time,...the new 7.5ml bottle. It was pretty stiff.

I only sent out a handful of those, and Doffy was one of the unlucky recipients... :(

This was back in July of 2015, mind you... :)

I have a few on hand to be able to put in the next few mods, if the owners choose to go that route. I also have a fresh email into Volpi, with a counter offer to their latest offer. We shall see.... :)

So I was doing a bit of mod maintenance this evening. One that was due was the original copper CC I've had for what now feels like forever -- but it's really only been since page 2 of this thread. :)

What prompted it was the button-action being less than smooth. In fact it was feeling a bit sticky. Not to the point of continuing to fire when released, but not like it should be either. No problem, I know how to fix that. Loosen nut under firing pin, swing pin out of the way, drop button out, clean the button, clean the hole, apply a bit of lube and Bob's yer uncle.

As I started doing that, I noticed the things were a bit more damp at the 510 and firing pin than I'd like, and the brass nut was getting kinda ugly. OK, either the bottle either needs a new piece of tubing, or the bits of the 510 are not quite tight....

Then it hit me: Somewhere around here, I've got new-style 510s for all my older CeeCees, but I've never felt compelled to actually install any of them, 'cause the old ones were still working fine for me.

The upgrade was easy as pie. I used the fancy 510 installation tool that Corey included, but didn't really need it. The old 510 started to come out before I had the tool screwed all the way into it! Here it is, mostly reassembled (sorry about the crappy lighting, it gets dark early this time of year):

I couldn't get a good picture of 'em, but looking at the new and old 510 bodies side-by-side under some significant magnification shows a world of difference in the machining!

Indeed! :D

Very important to keep the button and button hole clean and preferably waxed. :thumb:

Not necessarily waxed, but something to inhibit the formation of oxidation/patina, and to also act as a lube. Prevents sticky situations... :)

What did you use, Ross? :?:

A nice metal polish, perhaps? :?:

For cleaning, yep, Simichrome. But it doesn't do much for lubrication. I've found no panacea for that. I've tried just Renaissance Wax, a light coating of Militec-1 grease, Eeezox, etc. None have made metal buttons entirely maintenance-free, and I doubt anything ever will. This time I used a bit of Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant, just to see how it does. Another thing I've been meaning to try is some graphite lock lubricant.

The least maintenance is probably a delrin button. That stuff is "self lubricating". But even then, there will eventually be a buildup of crud that inhibits smoove motion. That happened to my 7075 in while I was Germany in September. I'm glad I had a delrin button in there 'cause it (and the hole) were easy to clean with nothing more than a wet napkin and didn't require any lube to function smoovly after being cleaned. I learned I really should carry a small multi-tool though; I had to borrow one in order to loosen the nut and swing the firing pin out of the way.
