Don't know if it would apply here, but back in the 70's and 80's for a car show we would polish our aluminum or magnesium wheels with polish then hand rub them with cornstarch. The cornstarch would do a clean mirror polish like no other. (Least back in those days)

Jim, those two holes are necessary for me to spot the magnet holes so that they line up perfectly in the cap. Without drilling holes through the cap and into the body, like you would if you were just putting screws in there, which would be infinitely cheaper and easier BTW... They have the side benefit of removing a little weight from the mod... they are only 1/8" holes, properly chamferred, and do not take away from the appearance of the mod imo... In other words,... they serve a very important purpose. :D
Thank You!!!

The only problem with it in this situation, is that the cornstarch will not respond well to high heat that some atty's can produce. If you avoid putting it on the top surface, you might be ok. I am sure willing to put it to the test once I have an aluminum CC mod and report back on it.

Cornstarch is a very fine abrasive. You would use it to perfectly smooth the surface like a polishing compound. Wipe it off before coating with anything. Heat won't matter because it should be gone before you use the mod.

Although these mods look like they have a mirror finish, they are brushed. Cornstarch is sticky and will cling in the ultra fine grooves. I am not discounting what you say, but I would need to try it out myself before I confirm or deny its usability for my own personal mods. I do use cornstarch to polish items around the house (it can help hide scratches in glass, too). I have not used it for a mod at the time of this writing.

I agree. I thought you were talking about polishing one of these mods all the way out. Cornstarch works great as a final dry polish, much cheaper than super fine compounds and often gives a better finish. But if you aren't polishing the mod smooth and going for the mirror look, I don't know how well it would work.

Whether alu or Brasso I swear by Brasso cleaner. Only takes a short while to do, doesn't leave a smell that I notice - after a quick rub wash and dry I also finish with a coat of Renaissance wax. Looks good as new within a few mins
