Sloth:
6061= standard aircraft aluminum used on the base model as well as the Reo and most other aluminum mods.
7075= hard aircraft aluminum, high strength aluminum optional on CC mods as well as a few others
7068= 80% of the hardness of titanium, 1/2 the weight, very hard to find. Getting a mod made of this will usually require some begging.

Sloth, your video was awesome! Some of the gem quotes were:

"I am Sloth, lets get down to business."

"It hath been squonked."

"Listen to that sax, and look under this top cap."

One thing I've found using Renaissance wax on my blades is that if you put on a very light coat and let it dry for a second or two before buffing, it produces a more durable hard coat. It turns a white color once it's ready to buff. Just my 0.02.

Fortune favors the Bottom Feeders.

LOL - "Listen to that sax, and look under this top cap." - that was pretty slotherly indeed

Thanks for the tip with Renaissance wax. Will try that out :thumb:

I'm going to be doing some CC mod shopping this week. Deoxit, Renaissance wax and Bear tex/Scotch Brite pads. Am I missing anything? I saw some gigantic pipe cleaners at Walmart a while back in the craft section that I think I'll get to use to clean out the battery and bottle areas. Anyone have other ideas for cleaning out those two areas? I'm determined to not get any deep scratches on this brassy so I've got her snuggled into an old baby sock when not in use. Looks goofy but I don't care. Speshul treatment for this baby.

All you really need to use on the bat/bottle hole is a twisted paper towel, works great for me

See there, sloth.......a baby sock! That's all you need, my friend! ;)

Lookin' good, pennysmalls! :thumb:

It looks like your list is complete. I've been meaning to get some test tube brushes off amazon, to see how they work in the batt./bottle holes...

Like Bob, I just use a rolled up paper towel. :)

i use an old tooth brush on the batt/bottle holes for the sides. For the bottoms i use a stiff short bristled artists brush. Finish with a paper towel stuff. If there is stubborn oxidation on the negative contact I use a scratch brush. Works like a charm.

Y'all opposed to removing the negative contact for cleaning?

I like removing it 'cause that gives me the opportunity to inspect the threads and apply some fresh DeoxIT to them...
Could have done that, I supposed. But for quick cleans, that brush will do the trick.

On removing the brass negative contact screw...... When I install them, I apply No-Ox-Id to the threads. For those who may not know, it is a conductive, electrical contact grease.

Also, I crank 'em down really tight. Once they're installed, I face mill the bottom of the mod, and the end of the screw, to be perfectly flush. Then, of course, I sand the bottom of the mod, perfectly smooth.

Long story short,...I wouldn't remove it unless it was necessary. It could result in unnecessary aggravation, trying to reinstall it, not to mention the potential for cross threading. :2c:

Now in your case, Ross....I know you wanted to reduce your button throw, so you removed it to put a brass shim/washer under it. That is a good example of "necessary". :)

That's true. But I removed it again when I did the last cleaning. Why? Well, because I knew I could.

Oh, and one of these days when you have time (yeah, right) my spare parts order will include a new negative contact screw for that mod, roughly 1mm longer than stock (I'll take the last 1/4mm off myself) and then the screw will be flush again.

I know you already know this,....but not everyone is as mechanically savvy as you, my good man. ;)

What a world it would be, if we all were, though...:)

I will be most happy to make you a longer contact, my friend. Just let me know what all you need, and I'll work it in somewhere. :thumb:
