What else do I need to buy to be a responsible CC caretaker?
Well, I got these for a couple reasons:
https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Mesh-Assortment-Pack-18-Pieces/dp/B00HJC156U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467842945&sr=8-2&keywords=micromesh+pads+12,000+grit
But this is the one that I use most:
https://www.amazon.com/Revell-Monogram-R7046-Micro-Mesh-12000/dp/B002XVRFE8/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1467842945&sr=8-4-fkmr2&keywords=micromesh+pads+12,000+grit
It'll put a mirror finish on the positive contact in (seriously) 5 seconds (okay, if the black spot is big enough, maybe like 12 seconds...). Speaking of which...has anyone else seen their black spot now turn into a white spot?
Edit: Also, (and I haven't done this yet, but plan to with the next one...) they're a "true" 2" square so there's enough meat there to cut it into 4 squares. The rounds on the 4 corners are useful but 2" is slightly more than needed for contacts and the center of the pad isn't really touched and having a 90° on it could be helpful.
