Blend herbs, unsalted butter, honey, etc.

Inject and cook
Baste and cook
Or smother after cooking

Apricot, raw honey, a hint of lemon juice and real unsalted butter blended make a fantastic replacement for bernaise.

If you choose a lean cut, baste it in butter using a brush while cooking.

It shpuld turn out rich and tender.

Add shaved lemon zest to the butter for a nice, but not overwhelming lemony, floral tone.

For extra creamy put heavy whipping cream with some chives, garlic, oregano and a teeny bit of cilantro into a magic bullet.

Blend until you have a soft butter.

Chill.

Then use it for cooking and basting (sparingly) and top off with a pat when plating.

Garnish with 3 to 5 sprigs of fresh oregano.

And maybe a slice of sun dried tomato or two.

...if you think it might be a little bit tough poke holes in it and marinate it it some orange juice, pineapple juice, honey and a clove - then grill it :)

And top with my Apricot sauce. :D

Yum!

Honestly, just get a good cut and don't overcook it.

Some salt helps, but not required.
Sea salt could be used. Supposedly not as bad for you.

Anything else takes away from the taste of the meat.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will stick with herb, apricot, and unsalted butter for the cooking. I think the sauce suggestions sound wonderful. I will make him up some of those on the side and let him try each of them.

More than welcomed.
I didn't go with either of the Shmucks.
Can't say I blame you.

Nothing as extraordinary as all that. I enjoy cooking for people who genuinely appreciate it and not just say so. No need in leaving a chair empty at the table when there is plenty of food :)

Does anyone have recommendations on steak for someone on a low-salt diet? I have an elderly widower neighbor that I would like to cook a steak dinner for without added salt.
Honestly depends on the cut you choose. Red wine, balsamic vinegar might be things you already have without running to the store. Little fresh garlic maybe...

If it's a good cut you won't need much seasoning...

Finish with salt-free butter.

If you are going to run to the store they have a number of salt-free seasonings. Maybe one sounds good...

That's really nice of you to do.....

I have go-to marinades but, they contain salt. Happy to share if interested.

You would be surprised at how much sodium is in things you would not have associated with it. Hence, my quandary. I did quite a bit of research on ingredients I could think of. Balsamic vinegar contains more sodium than any other type.

I feel sorry for people who are on a low sodium diet.

You know...
You might consider side dishes that contain high potassium, low sodium ingredients for this meal.

Might be a meal your friend could use in his arsenal toward a healthier balance.

ETA, a nice salad including avocado, fresh spinach and mushrooms would go a long way.

To minimize salt content you could make a creamy dressing with some fresh herbs and maybe a little scallions and garlic minced and mixed into some sour cream.

Let set in the fridge for at least 12 hours for flavors to meld.

Then toss into salad. Spritz gently with water if necessary to thin.

Top with fresh unsalted seeds or nuts for aesthetics and a palate cleanse.

Sunflower seeds go great with salads.

Soooooooooooooo,

Let's hear how easy 'President Trump' falls off the tongue
Here goes...

"Assassination"

No, no, that's not right.
Lemme try again.

Here goes...

"Uprising"

Bah! I give up. I can't do it. [emoji14]
