Definately another Aussie and trying shelters, but dang....maybe it's a California thing, but they sure discourage you from getting a pet from a shelter. I know they have to be careful, but some go overboard on requirements and tell you Oh btw after you meet and play with the dog and want it, that they won't call you.....crackers, they are cracked.Another vent another time. We're seeing one tomorrow, so keep fingers crossed.

I know, go fig. I realized they don't know us, but we're good people. The local shelter said since we have another dog, they would 'prefer' if ours was 8 yrs old. Shadow is 6, so that is why they won't bother calling..sigh. The shelter ad said nothing about that to begin with, just no kids under 12 'preferred'. True story. My friend went thru a hassle getting an aussie. After showing the shelter she is the dog whisperer of aussies (and they agreed after showing them stuff), it was non negoitable $300 for a trainer to come out and help you interact with the dog. It all depends on what shelters require. some where like wow...come back surprise visits to check on you?? Is that like trespassing? And heaven forbid if you weren't home at that time, can you imagine?
On the flip side...it's a shame it's come to this that some shelters feel they need to do this...but the non negoitable fee is outrageous.

Because Shadow is female and they wanted an older dog if we were getting female also, but didnt specify that in the ad.but there is good news...we got a dog today!!!! I'll post a pic. Her and shadow is kinda getting along, a couple of tiffs already, but she really is perfect for us. Blue merle and black tri Aussie..I couldn't be happier. Her temperment is so mellow. She was kinda being trained as a show dog, so she doesn't play right now and I think barked once. We'll see if she whines tonight or not, but doubt it. Her name is Crystal and she's 2 1/2.

Ahw she is a cutie div! I love her already!! Ya know me Border Collie guy... so she is right there with um.. LOL at 2 1/2 she should be gettin to a bit more mellow stage! Notice I said should....Not is... Bet she will be a super family member.

Thanks SC, sure hope so. Shadow and Crystal need to learn to get together on the same page. But every dog that meets Shadow is so intimated by her size, she is tall and lanky, but so lovable. Here's hoping they settle in with each other.

Not totally sure. My daughter got her from a shelter when she was going to school in Utah (didn't work out school wise) and came home with dog in tow. Part of me thinks greyhound (only because of height) and other retriever (she won't get out of the water/lakes when camping) she's black.

Hey, that's a fine looking friend you got there div!

We had an Aussi Shep one time and it was one of the best dogs we ever had. He was a working dog, not a house pet and was one of the best for rounding up cattle and bringing them where I wanted them. Very intelligent and sometimes I thought he could read my mind.

He'd even come tell me if there was a snake near the house so that I would go shoot it. He knew that's what needed to be done to snakes!

This guy here is Chance, he's a house dog and my buddy that takes naps with me. If I make him mad (like not letting him be the Alpha dog) he will come into my den and carefully remove everything from my wastepaper basket. Then sits there and grins at me.

Boy, did we ever hijack THIS Thread!!

To get things back on track ... I did order some Custard Saturday afternoon and by Saturday evening had the notice it had been shipped.
