why is all the innovation centered on 510 connectors?.....510 cartomizers, eGo batteries, Hello's new 1300mah battery.....why isn't anyone doing anything with 808 stuff?......is KR808 the new 8 track music player?.....

better not be, cause if it is, I guess I'm gonna be a long haired hippie type in a flowerpower van.

It's because, so far, 510 atomizers are far and away the most prevalent. Just a wild guess but I'm figuring 510 atomizers are or were recently about twice the volume of the next most used atomizer. That would be KR808x cartomizers and the rest would be a long ways after that. So you use that connector and people can use adapters for the rest.

because the KR808 is designed to be disposeable...so why would you innovate for a design that you're going through 1-4 of per day...just carry an extra battery or 2...or just 1 and a PCC...

Meanwhile since the atty lasts longer...well that's where all the innovation is...getting the other parts to last longer...so longer battery lifes, juice feeders etc...

yeah the KR8 basically is the betamax of the ecig world..

Heh! there was NOTHING wrong with betamax

The atomizer was made to be reuseable and the KR8 disposable but the funny thing is that I go through atomizers like a forest fire and I've yet to burn out a KR808D (6v).

right...but a slightly better analogy than the 8 track reference..

same thing here nothing really inherently wrong with the format but when you're not trying to advance the format and address it's biggest issues...well...betamax...

anyway yeah they work great at 6V...and the only thing I use KR808s for...because well at 6V you're expecting to loose atties or these and well it's the same price for 5 of these as an atty...making them WAY more economical for 6V vaping....but really I think that that comes as a surprise to alot of people...besides with their higher Ω resistance they just fit better at HV....which isn't exactly a set it up and forget it kinda thing either..

I use cartomizers 2 weeks each before switching to a new one. That's 4$ a month... The cartomizer is infinitely better for long vaping sessions than a 510 (I NEVER use a 510 if I can't drip).

I'd say each atomizer has their strengths and weaknesses....

The KR808 is popular, TONS of people use cartomizers, I'd say it's from from a betamax.

But that's using the cartomizers outside of their designed for specs....they were designed to be one use disposeable....until the cartomizer itself is designed to be reuseable there's no reason to innovate and design for it outside of an adapter...

And you miss the point of the betamax reference...betamax was in some ways superior to VHS (retention of picture quality) but the industry moved around it for other reasons...video rental stores and porn killed betamax as they focused on VHS....yeah the 808 is totally the betamax of the ecig world

Yes, yes, and yes. lol. I use KR808s and 901s. Both weigh in right around 3 to 3.2 ohms. perfect.

(wait a minute... it just hit me that you have an omega character in your post! how'd you do that?!)

That's like saying 510 carts are designed to be disposable, so anybody who refills them is using them "outside of their designed for specs". Maybe several iterations ago, when the caps were really glued on, the manufacturers expected most cartos to be thrown away when empty, but that's not the case any more. Especially now with the easy 1-piece silicone caps, these things are made to be reused. They don't last forever, but what does? I've had 510 and 901 attys last less than a week, and you're lucky if you get more than that our of the new LR 510 attys. Sure, some people have attys that are six months old and still going strong, but that's the exception, not the rule. The average carto might have 1/3 the expected lifespan of the average atty, but at 1/5th the price, it's still a bargain.

But this is all besides the original point. There are six thread styles used by ecigs. Based on available mods and what I see posted, I'd estimate "market share" for serious users (the people who are likely to actually buy mods) to breakdown like this:

  • 510 - 60%
  • 901/KR808 - 30%
  • 801 - 8%
  • everything else - 2%

Based on that estimation, it makes sense that mod makers would primarily make 510-compatible mods first, and if they offered any other options, they would be 901/KR808. That covers 90% of ecig users. Besides, there are adapters available to go from 510 or 901 batteries to any other type (except E9 for some reason), so the other 10% of users aren't all that inconvenienced.

assuming you're on a PC...hold down your alt key and hit 2,3,4 on your numeric keypad and release alt and you get Ω
