But that's using the cartomizers outside of their designed for specs....they were designed to be one use disposeable....until the cartomizer itself is designed to be reuseable there's no reason to innovate and design for it outside of an adapter...
That's like saying 510 carts are designed to be disposable, so anybody who refills them is using them "outside of their designed for specs". Maybe several iterations ago, when the caps were really glued on, the manufacturers expected most cartos to be thrown away when empty, but that's not the case any more. Especially now with the easy 1-piece silicone caps, these things are made to be reused. They don't last forever, but what does? I've had 510 and 901 attys last less than a week, and you're lucky if you get more than that our of the new LR 510 attys. Sure, some people have attys that are six months old and still going strong, but that's the exception, not the rule. The average carto might have 1/3 the expected lifespan of the average atty, but at 1/5th the price, it's still a bargain.
But this is all besides the original point. There are
six thread styles used by ecigs. Based on available mods and what I see posted, I'd estimate "market share" for serious users (the people who are likely to actually buy mods) to breakdown like this:
- 510 - 60%
- 901/KR808 - 30%
- 801 - 8%
- everything else - 2%
Based on that estimation, it makes sense that mod makers would primarily make 510-compatible mods first, and if they offered any other options, they would be 901/KR808. That covers 90% of ecig users. Besides, there are adapters available to go from 510 or 901 batteries to any other type (except E9 for some reason), so the other 10% of users aren't all that inconvenienced.
