Great article. Thanks for posting.

Here's the comment I left...

As a former smoker (30 years, 1.5 packs/day), I am another person who has benefited from the availability of e-cigs. I didn't mean to quit smoking - I loved to smoke - but I bought a starter e-cig kit six over six months ago and haven't had a cigarette since that day. (I don't miss it either.)

I am also a nurse who works mainly with elderly patients. One thing no one mentions but that I find particularly interesting are the recent studies (both completed and on-going) that show strong correlations between nicotine use and a significantly reduced risk of Parkinson's/Alzheimer's. (By 'significantly', I'm speaking of 30-50% reduced risk.)

The havoc both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's causes not just the patient, but their families - not even counting the huge amounts of money it takes to care for these individuals - is something I've witnessed first hand far too often.

Personally, I would not be at all surprised if doctors start prescribing nicotine for their patients at high risk of or in the early stages of dementia.

Wouldn't that be ironic?

That article makes me chuckle... Of course the cigarette mfgr are OK with it because they can adapt and overcome. Screw the fact that it actually works and for some people has been the ONLY things that works... Let's worry about it competing with the stuff that didn't work them to begin with... Like the patch or the gum. That is such bogus! Let's fight the thing that actually works because it doesn't make us any money.... The ONLY thing I could see them wanting that would make sense is to uniformly make thing safer bc creating a standard for mainstream ecigs. Just like analogs though, those who choose to go custom assume their own risk (just like rolling your own custom blend of tobacco).

Obama appoints a Big Pharm lobbyist to head the FDA. Isn't that the classic fox overseeing the hen house scenario? It's no accident that the attacks on vaping started with this administration.

+1
And the first thing he did? Quit smoking with... Nicorette gum. Talk about promoting a product.

and I love it every time he's caught with a smoke

It's the same in the UK. Our FDA equivalent is the Medicice and Healthcare Regulatory Agency. It is run by ex pharma men, funded by
Licence money from medicines. When they want "outside" opinions they ask their mates.... From the pharma industry. They didn't even think that pharma men invited to talk about e cigs needed to declare their interests when they work for pharma co. that make NRT. All the time we have them involved they can only make e cigs medical..... They do not know anything else.

I don't think he actually quit from what I have read.

I agree, hence the saecond sentence in my post. :).

Off topic, but fits in with the big Pharma, CDC FDA, is concerned.
And if we put our tinfoil hats for a moment, we can drop a few extras into the conspiracy ecig conspiracies pile.
1. PG kills germs
2. Nicotine kills bugs
3. Big Pharma wants eCigs out of the picture

With that in mind, watch this documentary.

I suppose that we have to convince them that they're wrong.

I write to my MP about this all the time - and she's been really great and sent it on to the Health Secretary, who has also replied to me.

Lately things have got a little quiet in this regard, which I like.

It usually means that people are actually considering points raised.

Always beware of rapid replies, which (imho) are boilerplate.

The video I posted above, shares in several places, how the CDC partnered up with BP in '88, when the BP was allowed to start patenting their pills. Ever since then, it's been a huge power play, and wow, let's just say, any Doctor who fights them has always been admirable, but after watching this, they are downright heroes.
If you or your loved one, have MS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and so many other debilitating diseases, that require expensive treatment, ... Chances are, they have Lyme Disease that requires mainly antibiotics. (Long time use of antibiotics, which the medical board disapproves of, and the medical board is/was/is recipients of BP money)...
That's just one video out of many out there. Ff to 42-ish

It sounds like British PM's are more intune with their constituents than American politicians. I mostly get boilerplate BS responses.

You've got that right wv. I've contact one of our Senator's numerous times with the same bs, non-specific response. Make next contact with him when he runs for re=election and my vote will be "boilerplate". Funny that I'm writing about him today because he was on TV talking about all the wonderful things Obama has done for us. Right.
