Wow!! I didn't know about that. It reminds me of the McDonalds law suit. I mean seriously, if you didn't know nicotine was addictive in 2004 you have lived in a bubble! Don't get me wrong making it more addictive isn't ok, but our government uses sex drive surpressive drugs in the water and food of our soldiers "in country" to keep it under control while they are at war. Why are their drug type manipulations ok? Why, because those persons joined the military (individual choice) and we smoked cigarettes (individual choice). It doesn't really matter how much the military manipulates the drug dosage used to accomplish this, the point is the soldiers knew it was happening, and they had already chose to serve. Like nicotine addiction we were aware that addiction and serious health issues were a possibility, but we chose to continue to engage anyway. My point is nicotine is addictive, just like crack. We all know the risk of both before we engage. We knew the more we smoked the harder it will be to stop. It does upset me that Big tobacco manipulated the time in which I became addicted, but who's to say that wouldn't have happened regardless. I mean honestly, we should take responsibility for our own choices. Yes, continuing to add those chemicals should be stopped and laws should prevent any further manipulation in that way, but most of us knew the risk before we took our first puff. And if we did not, that's because the research wasn't conclusive at that time. When the results were released they were based on conclusive evidence. I think there should be other nicotine delivery options available, now that I have this habit, like e-cigarettes.
furthermore, I can not blame Big Tobacco for my decision to start smoking in the first place.
Just like those of us that are not overweight know that Mcdonalds is not solely to blame for the obesity of those people that eat McDonalds everyday several times a day. Just like those who chose not to smoke know it is not Big tobacco's fault that smokers start smoking and become addicted. Just like it's not the drug dealer's fault crack users use crack. I've never used crack and have always known it was illegal and addictive, but I blame those that partake in it's use for their own circumstances. So, please understand that as an American I feel that we should be allowed to choose for ourselves what hazardous activities we partake in, but when my cord is defective and I die bungie jumping. I knew before I leaped, that was a possibility. Is it their fault that I became an adrenaline addict or is it mine? Enough said...
