Hey,

So after going through a tank or two I started to notice these black dots on the cotton. I took some pictures so you can see what i'm talking about. The taste is not affected and sometimes I even feel like it is even better when they start appearing but I was wondering if this happens to anyone else and if they are bad for my health and if I should replace the coil with a new one. Also, unrelated to the black dots, but I feel like the taste is ... until the coil starts getting black, no idea why.

I'm using a Doggystyle clone and a Berserker Mini, this happens on both, I vape at 12-14W, 6wraps spaced coil 28GA Kanthal A1, 1.05ohms. Cotton Im using is Demon Killer Muscle Cotton. And for the eliquid I'm only vaping a DRY4 right now. Also I throughly clean the wire before making a new coil with hot water and dawn soap. Listing all of this just in case lol.

Thank you for reading.

Frequently organic Japanese cotton can come with small dark dots on them which is normal to cotton that isn't bleached white like cotton balls. Zero idea what Demon Killer cotton is made of but it looks like organic cotton. They're probably the normal little spot discolorations natural to the cotton that become more noticeable after vaping some juice through and highlighting the spots. Juice does that. Now I'm not 100% certain, but that's my leading contender. After that, no clue.

Some of the specks and spots may be from other parts of cotton. Husks, leaves, seeds...no biggie. But a lot of that looks like it's from your coil. I know exactly what you mean about some juices tasting better after a few tanks. Also no biggie. You'll know when you need a new coil.

I remember Russ (superxdrifter) would pick out the black seeds before wicking
Where is that guy these days?

Russ has got it All Wrong.

No Way. I totally Leave them In.

I try to trim the Cotton so I can have a Few of those Black Bits inside the Coil. Then center them in between the Coil Spacing. Some of My Best Hitting Coils have been like this.

I've though about Saving the Black Bits from the Cut-Off Cotton pieces. Then Sprinkling them onto a Less Speckled wick.

But maybe that is Going Too Far?

To all you Japanese cotton users, do you pick out the black seeds/hulls?

Could be the cotton or perhaps it's from that gnarly coil....when I zoom in , it looks like that coil is kind of well done, like flakey. Maybe some crud is coming off of the coil? Put a new coil in and see if it's still going on, at least you can eliminate that if it's still happening...
