I've found myself becoming a little freaked out over the black juice that comes out of cartos and atties when you blow them out...I know this has probably been discussed before but I did an extensive google search and nothing really popped up...feel free to "suave"

but up until last night I (naively) thought that black juice was an issue limited to atties

I overfilled the carto I was using and blew a little bit out...it was nearly pitch black....I blew through it for about 15 minutes, occasionally adding a drop or 2 and eventually the color returned to a somewhat normal one...this is a cartomizer I've been using for 2 or 3 days at this point

now I've dissected old cartos that lasted nearly a month and they were understandably black and gray because of all the heated juice that they had seen in their day

I know about the normal cleaning methods people use with cartos, but I just throw them out once they stop working well...

does anyone have any insight into this substance? does anyone blow out a carto in the same way they do an atty? the thought of dark gray liquid vaporizing and ending up in my lungs is a little unsettling

Must be the juice you're using produces sediment. After about 3 weeks on my Boge cartomizers the juice is still clear. Currently vaping BWB Backo.

Hmmm. I use the same juice and I can hardly get two days out of a carto, and the resulting liquid that comes out of the carto is black. Maybe it has to do with my chain-vaping habit....

Might also have to do with what kind of wattage you vape at, I'm a fan of 8-8.5 watts and get some noticeable darkening, going with a higher resistance and dropping the wattage into the 6.5-7 range and there's little to no change, but not my ideal vape.

Actually Shadow I'm just using a plain ole Joye eGo now (until my Reo arrives), but you may have something...in that too high and too low a voltage (wattage?) may have an effect. I know that tobacco-type flavors can generally handle higher voltages than, say, fruit or dessert flavors. It's a thought.

The hotter a cartomizer is (low resistance) the darker the juice will become. I use echo-e duals and upon refilling, I always get black juice coming out the battery end. I don't mind it...it still has to be healthier than smoking. I just tell myself that it's from the juice constantly getting hot from chainvaping. I use all types of juices and don't see a difference in any of them...they all eventually turn black in a carto..or at least dark brown.

yeah I use dual coils 1.6 ohm cartos, which I just switched to from 2 ohm duals...this is the first I've really noticed a big change in the color

I tend to agree with the guys above that believe it's probably due to caramelization...and yes, it can't possibly be as bad for you as combustible carcinogens

i think I was just taken aback by BLACK juice coming from my cartomizer

Juices higher in sugar content seem to be the culprit. I thought it was heat because I first started noticing it on a dual coil tank (the juice would get darker as it mixed with what was in the carto). Eventually I was able to sort of deduce that it was specific to one liquid which was a pretty sweet juice.

I had this happen to me tonight on a 3-day old Boge 2.7 ohm carto (using a 3.7 ego which maybe goes down to 3.4?, I dunno about that so much), but, anyway, it freaked me out! I immediately threw out the carto which I had just refilled with some really sweet tobacco flavor (Stuyvesant). I figured after three days the carto had just had it and I've got more of them so, what the hey?
I am glad I stumbled on to this thread though. Very timely. I usually boil my cartos clean after a few days of use and they work again almost like new. With the one filled with black gunk tonight I just figured I'd get rid of it.

that's amazing to me man...I don't know how you do it...the 2 cartos I've ever tried to clean, I cleaned very gently and reasonably and they never so much as fired again
