Wow, MIB! For the Men In Black
I swear by my Kayfuns! They are my daily use - and most used RBAs. I have many others and have tried an equal number more from friends & folks, but none beat the "value-for-money" of my Kayfuns. For the simpleness of use, easiest to build & maintain, pocket friendliness and trustworthy performance ~ the Kayfuns ROCK!
I have all the kayfun variants and tend to like my Russians a tad more just b’coz of it’s coated finish (ymmv). I am a sucker for engravings, contrasting colours and different stokes
Thus, when a chance came to join a "group buy” for the Black Russian 91% thru one of my friends at ECF - I jumped. And Voilà!
BUILD QUALITY AND MATERIALS:
As with the current Russians this one too is a very well done job. And for the first time we know that the Black Russian 91% is actually made of SS 316. Which currently is the highest grade of Stainless Steel that top vape devices are made of. The colour is Matte Black and KEBO states that it is done "using high-tech immersion plating”. And I have no issues doubting that since it seems pretty solid coating as of now. The above picture is of the innards after I thoroughly cleaned it / scrubbed it using a toothbrush.
Even the deck is a nice piece of work. Neatly done, smooth threads and grooves. And its all coated as well except the Positive Terminal, Chamber Section and the Chimney ~ which are Mirror Polished SS unlike the other Russians (which have a brushed finish). Together they look awesome!
However, I'd believe it'd be as good as we handle it in the future. Its bound to fade / chip-off in the long run, heck Provari does too! But my Black Copper Stingray is a few months old now ~ and not a scar! Ditto my Russians. So yes, it can be kept pristine if we want to.
THE SETUP / WICK & COIL:
Nothing fancy here, I just placed a regular Microcoil & Cotton build in it - since I wanted to check how it performs in standard setups. And it’s doing well with a 1.3Ω coil, see below:
NOTE: It came spotless out of the box. Seems like they had run it thru an Ultrasonic Cleaner before shipping. I still washed it up thoroughly as I do with all my stuff.
28AWG Kanthal, 8/9 wraps on a toothpick
BOTTOMLINE:
It’s about two days now I’m non-stop vaping this bad boy, couple of tanks thru and few wicks changed ~ it is behaving pretty well indeed! Setting up, deck real estate, tank capacity, construction etc. are exactly same as the regular Russian 91%. But this being “v2” it has two important developments. One, gone is the "mouthpiece adapter” - it now takes any 510 drip tip directly. Two, the AFC has a wider range ~ meaning: in its fully open position it gives an airier draw ~ come aboard the “lung inhalers”!
Else, it is pretty much the Russian 91% ~ but a smarter looking one if Black is your thing (mine is!). Overall ~ this is a good “buy" for a Kayfuner! I am loving it!
