Blew my custom Box Mod out

Howdy. Was building a mechanical unregulated box mod. Finished getting her put together, popped in the batteries, and boom...all the solder melted and the batteries/contact started hissing and smoking. I obviously "dun goofed" I'm just not sure where. I'd like to avoid the obvious "you shouldn't be building if you don't know what was wrong" and head straight towards the "It was likely you did this incorrectly" if possible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like you shorted the batteries out.. just from the reading.

I've already ripped it up and started over. What would short the batteries? Crossed wires?

It shorted, use proper insulation. maybe your positive contact of the battery sled is touching the metal enclosure which is conntected to the battery negative. Are u using a mosfet?

Single Mosfet, Dual 18650's, 15k 1/4W resistor (1), 14 gauge/16 gauge.

PIcture will help us understand better what went wrong, if you already dismantle it there is not much anyone can do. Ill suggest after you finish it again just post the picture here

If you don't know what can short batteries you really probably shouldn't be building or fooling with any electronics especially building a mod. This could have ended very badly for you. I know it isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth.
