It is recommended that if you are not using your pass through and you leave the room, for safety concerns you should unplug it.
I leave my VP-PT plugged in most of the day and have been doing so for months with no damage to the pass through.

I don't unplug mine, but I should, or at least take the cart off. if it falls, or if it activates, it could burn stuff.
The original discussion regarding unplugging the PT revolved around the fact that some people had the button on the manual PT stick which could have caused it to overheat without you knowing it if you walked away from the computer.
Ask the guy with the burn hole in his couch,or the one whos desk almost burned up.I would unplug when unattended,but thats just me.Better safe than sorry.
I wouldnt even plug mine into my USB port on my puter, no way buy the AC-USB plug.
From a 5-10 watt USB port on a computer protected by a polyfuse?

Just don't confuse exploding batteries for a few watts worth of USB. That is like confusing the Easy Bake for a star going nova.

I have an older computer that doesn't wanna do it's stuff, I use that.

It's a device that heats something up. There's zero benefit to leaving it plugged in, as it doesn't need to charge/etc. You don't have to move it, just pull the plug out.
Just unplug it when you're not using it. And the PTs used to have a sticker that said 'unplug when not in use' on the orig packaging... do they not anymore?
I don't leave my hairdryer plugged in. I am one of those annoying people that turns off everything when I leave the house.

I agree that unplugging stuff when not in use is a good idea. That is because my hubby will stop on the freeway to ask.."did we leave ?? on?"

I've never unplugged my passthru unless I am changing computers....and I still have my original passthru from almost a year ago.
In theory it should be good enough to just take the carto off, as you've broken the circuit. Sure, if you want the ultimate in safety unplug it, but I don't think it's necessary. I do however always take the cartos off the PT when they're not in use.
