Hey, all - last week I posted a frustrated screed (is there any other kind?) against Blu here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/447333-whatever-you-do-dont-go-blu.html

I thought I'd post a top thread here to reply, since I kind of like how things have worked out. I retract nothing. We're going on 9 days and they still haven't shipped my last order, but that's all right - because I was incentivized to look around a bit, as a result of which two things have happened:

1. I switched to eGo-style vaping (it's a Kanger Evod battery, if that matters); and
2. I located a great local source of juice and advice in the form of a smoke shop. That might not seem like much of an accomplishment, but this is a very small town. Their juice and battery selection is actually about as broad as is their selection of 'tobacco' water pipes. And they have a hell of a lot of 'tobacco' water pipes. Some real beauties, too - blown glass, multiple colors, just really lovely bits of work. Makes me wish I smoked 'tobacco'.

Currently I'm using a mix of two flavors: 'Desert Ship' (a Camel taste-alike) and 'Tiramisu' (which is exactly what it sounds like). The blend is very pleasant, at least to my palate, and at 18mg of nicotine, it gets me nicely up without making me feel god-awful.

At $30 for an eGo starter kit, I was probably a damned fool not to do more research before I went electronic, since of course the Blu kits cost the same and give you a fraction of the usability. But I've been off analog cigarettes for years, subsisting on nic lozenges and cigars - ha, no inhaling - and I really did miss the other aspects of smoking. Well, I've done learned a bit of a lesson.

The plastic clearomizer that came with the kit cracked after a day, though - hooray for QA in manufacturing - so I decided to stop being a cheep bastid and picked up something with a little more staying power, a tank like this one:

As you may imagine, it looks kinda goofy on a 650 mAh battery, but I've got a 1K pass-through on the way. It'll probably look just as goofy, but it'll be taller.

Most fun of all, my wife is now also vaping as of this weekend, though with a 0mg peach-flavored juice for now. She's never smoked; she just likes the puffs and the flavor. She'd tried some flavored hookah smoke a while back and liked it, and she's tickled by the way the vapor spreads in clouds around her.

After repeated calls to Blu they credited my order account for $25, which I guess I'll use on cartridges, since they screw into the big battery and work as well as you'd expect. I've also got a friend who uses them and seems to like them, so he might just end up inheriting the entire works from me. I'm done with them.

So I guess it all worked out, sorta kinda.

Unfortunately, with Blu, they seem to be "cool" and are similar to smoking an actual cig. Their disposables are alright and were one of my first introductions to vaping. Luckily, I balked at the $60 price tag for the starter kit.

I'm glad you weren't deterred by the bad experience with Blu. Egos are better anyway, and they give a better vape. I hope you continue on.

I'm glad it worked out, and hope you get the mess completely sorted soon.

As for looking silly, well short of on a rather fat PV, the protank always looks a bit silly.

Now that you have one, try cotton wicks for it, better flavor - more wick changing but, it's very inexpensive (even cheesecloth and flour sack towels work for making wicks.)

It was the similarity to analog that drew me in, yeah. I figured I'd be doing all right with a brand owned by Lorillard, since they're into 'real' cigarette manufacture. What I didn't count on was the somewhat inconsistent QC, and the rather poor customer service. That said, Blu does have an aesthetic appeal.

Their starter kits have got a lot cheaper, too - the basic version is now going for $30.

As for eGo's giving better vape - lordy yes. It's like a fookin forest fire. I also like being able to mix my own blends. I don't think I'm apt to give it up any time soon, since I've pretty much conceded to the reality of my addiction to nicotine, but I have no intention of returning to analog cigarettes. I'd like to keep my lungs. I also like the stealth aspect of it; I can puff a bit in the office without anyone even noticing. Try that with a Marlboro.
