3.5 years ago I ordered a BLU starter kit. I've heard they're better now, they were total crap back then. The only good thing about my BLU was I could tell from the first drag off of it that I could switch off analogs to ecigs. Feb 6th was my last vape. Smoked analogs for >52 years and now I don't. And, I owe it all to my BLU. I don't know if anybody has actually quit smoking using a BLU ecig, but it's multi thousands of peoples' introduction to vaping. JMHO

Cheers,

Blu is owned by big tobacco.
I would render a guess that their marketing folks would target it to look like a cigarette and give smokers something to use when they can't smoke. Keep them hooked and keep them coming back to cigarettes seems like a more valid direction for big tobacco to take for now.
I would doubt at this point in the ecig market they'd be trying to produce a product that works so well most people would drop cigarettes completely for it. Sorry for this sounding so much like a conspiracy theory, but with billions of dollars at stake and tons of brilliant marketing folks on staff they must have a strategy for how ecigs fit into their product line.

I had no luck quitting with blu or any of the small battery/tank setups. I would have gone back to smoking if I hadn't found something strong like a mechanical mod and RDA. Once I had a good setup things became so much easier.

Same here. I was on round 2 of trying to quit using BLUs and it was only marginally working. If I had known about vaping I could have started more cheaply and with a more effective product. You know this now though so it's all good!

They're not rip-offs, they're simply for newbies like when I was starting out. Noobs want cig look alikes. I spent hundreds of dollars on them. It eventually dawned on me that they're too small to hold as much power as the bigger ones. Starters will always go for cig look alikes. So there will always be a huge market for them. I've had the same problems like batteries going dead after only a few days, etc. It's normal. Batteries don't last. They have lifetimes even if only stored and not used. Point is many people will always get burned at first. You can't even convince them. They made up their minds. They want cig look alikes. I've been there.

If you want a cigalike try the volcano magma. It's a larger battery than the blu and they have great customer service. I haven't had any issues with my magma kit. They also sell easily refillable cartos and clearomizers and have a great community forum.

I would recommend starting with an inferno or ego style battery since the battery life and performance will actually work out better.

I think the blu cig is just a temporary start for the world for new vapors to start branching out and then ditch the thing in a matter of days because it's not good enough of an e cig. I sure didn't use it for long just because it wasn't near my standards of an electronic cigarette. I think it's just a waste of money and people just buy it just because it's a big name brand that everyone has heard of but never tried. Just like clothes. You gotta have the name brand stuff whether it's good or not lol. Just saying.

I have noticed may of the Ecig-A-Like types seen to hide the fact the cartos can be refilled. There is the big cost savings even if you are buying pre made liquids. Although been vaping for 2.5 years now and into mods I still feel the Ecig-A-Likes can be the best way to start since they more closely mimic the ritual of the analogue in look and feel. I ended up settling on generic kr808d-1s for cost. Now there are many fine brands such as V2 and South Beach at a reasonable cost. The BEST thing we can do is point those trying to quit to this forum. If only I had known when I was attempting the switch! Blu Ecigs are expensive. Even if improved not the best choice in my opinion.

The only good thing I've heard about Blu is that after an experience with them, some people wind up here looking for something better, knowing that they CAN quit cigarettes via vaping. So, congrats OP, on opening your mind to giving vapin a try, and welcome to ECF!

Now, The bad about Blu is that I've encounters many people in real life who were completely turned off to vaping by Blu. Thankfully, by letting them try my set up, I've changed a couple minds on that. I'm glad you're still open to the idea! If you still want a cigalike set up, and many do, you have options that are better then Blu. I started with an ego type set up from the get go, but I can tell you a few that I've heard about in these forums that perform much better then Blu. Look into Smokeless Images Volt, Halo's G6, and Joyetech's eRoll. Beat in mind though, that battery life will continue to be an issue with them. Small batteries mean more charging.

If you wouldn't mind something about the size of a cigar, give an ego type battery a try. There are tons of affordable options in this category. I started with a $15 express starter kit from ivape.net. It comes with one 650 mAh, variable volt (5 clicks of button to change volt), passthrough (vape while it's charging) battery and an Evod clearomizer (tank that holds liquid with a coil that heats it and turns it into vapor). The Evod is a great clearo, with a bottom coil that is easy to maintain. At $15, this isn't the BEST battery out there, but I think for the price it's a great way to try something larger then a cigalike to see if you like it and want to invest more into a better set up. I'd link to it, but I'm on my phone.

Here we go. Switched to my iPad. Here's the link. As I stated though, this is a try it and see if you like it. For a variable volt, passthrough and an Evod tank though, it's a fabulous price. Cigarettes are $14 per pack here in NYC, so it was a no brainer to me. It was my only device for a good two weeks before I got an upgrade and I didn't have an issue with it. I've since passed it on to my sister in law to try, and I may buy more to pass on to others who want to try.

I think blus are an ok way to start. I too was caught up with wanting a look-a-like and want something small. Anyhow I do have several gripes with them as well. I do like the regular tobacco flavor as well as the disposables for convenience. I do not like the short battery life and the fact that sometimes I feel like the refill cartos are duds. I have spent a couple o hundred dollars the past 2 months on refills and trying a couple of different cig-a-likes. I have discovered a local vape shop and plan on upgrading as soon as I can get back down there. The one good thing I can say about blu is it has made me realize that I can live without analogs.

I have magma kit and its nothing special. I thought it would be better than greensmokes but turned out they are not. Out of 5 refillables that i got only 3 worked, 2 were bad from beginning. Main issues are that their cartridges don't last long. I get around 40-50 puffs from refills. Prefilled ones last a bit more around 65 puffs. Battery lasts around 20-30 minutes of puffing and if it wasn't for the ppc case it would be total crap. Greensmokes batteries last longer and I was able to get around 150 puffs from their cartridges.
Main thing that I'm still ticked about volcanos is their return policy. They treat these as consumables and have no return policy. Since i didn't want to waste any money i had to settle for magmas and return greensmokes which btw have awesome customer service. I was able to return them with 0 issues.
Because of that experience this will be the last volcano product i will get no matter how good it is. I recently got few vw devices so I'm using magmas less and less now

ohh yes i almost forgot about kanger tech !

kanger makes the best clearomizers on the market right now ! they have the EVOD made to fit an ego perfectly, the protank, the protank mini again made for an ego, and the aero tank ! the pro tank is a very reliable clearo, probably the most reliable clearo out there and it has a glass tank ! you cant beat that ! the protank 1 and 2 are single coil class tank clearomizers that fit any 510 mod and will work just fine on a pen style like an ego, they have easly replacable coils that are pretty cheap to buy so you can swap them out when they go bad or try your hand at rebuilding them ! THE TANKS ARE SUPER EASY TO FILL unlike a carto or carto tank, you just unscrew the bottom and fill it up and go .

kanger also makes and ego style battery and an ego twist style battery too ! they are verry reliable.

a verry good and wallet friendly setup that you will not be dissapointed in would be the kanger evod starter kit

if you want something better and more fancy looking then i will tell you that a kanger twist battery and a protank 2 is going to be the best vape you can buy for the money !!!!

kanger = moderate cost and great top of the line clearo's and stick batterys !

my sister quit smoking a pack a day habit with my recomondation of the evod starter kit !! she quit in less than 2 weeks using it and has not had a cig since !! she has beeen using it for 5 months now and has not had the urge to upgrade or change over to anything ! the evod starter kit is working perfectly for her !

she has this exact kit

this is probably the least expencive way to go and a LOT of people use this as there every day set up.

I just got this evod kit as a backup. This is a good place to buy, and a great price. Free shipping, too. Use the code ECF at checkout to get 10% off, which makes it around $30! Here is a link:

I made the mistake of trying Blu first as well. I even went down the road of boiling and refilling the cartos with different juice and the time and hassle involved only made me go back to regular cigs.

There are so many options out there. My advice is to do what I did and go to you local e cig shop and test some out. You will be pleasantly surprised.

the last incident i had with blue was a few weeks ago....i ran out of e juice waiting for vape mail and i had to go to the corner store and get a 5 pack of blue prefilled carto's

well let me tell you that even on a 3.7v mech mod the blue cartos only lasted for 5 puffs before the flavor was gone and they taste burnt LOL i steamed through that 15$ 5 pack i one day !!! and yeh you can refill the blue cartos by poping the back off and dripping vg/pg or e juice in them untill they are saturated..... but you will never get rid of that burnt taste you get after the 5th puff !!!!!

i am glad i only had to deal with that for 2 days !!!!

the blue cartos are soo bad they are litteraly done after 5-6 puffs on a real mod !!!! ROFLAO !!!! hey even a cheap smoktech carto last me almost a week and they only cost 1.50$

I agree. I got a set and had moved on to a (very affordable) V2 and blanks and Johnson Creek juice in a week. As others have noted, in my experience the batteries don't hold charge and the cartomizers taste burnt after a few puffs so I was just throwing money away because I couldn't finish them. But they were good while they lasted and got me started. I hope you find a better way that suits.
