I started with a Blu kit, and wasn't too impressed. The battery life was incredibly short, I had difficulty screwing the batteries into the charger pack, and I didn't like the flavors much at all. I also tried a disposable before getting the kit and yes, there's a difference. The disposable was larger, produced more vapor and lasted quite a while. Still didn't really like the flavor too much.
I switched to the Volt, got empty cartomizers and juice from Vapedudes and I couldn't be happier. I was so impressed, that vaping has now become a hobby for me. Been doing it for 12 days and I've already spent $400 in kits, battery upgrades, cartomizers and juice. A sad part of these expenses was in figuring out what I liked and finding out what I didn't like. $110 of that was spent on Blu, which I should be getting at least $60 back from returning my starter kit.
I'd highly recommend getting one of the Volt starter kits and choosing a pack of sampler cartomizers (if the kit you buy allows you to choose which flavors you want). If you get two batteries (a good idea all around), you might want to choose one automatic and one manual to figure out which one you prefer. I personally like both for different reasons, manuals when I'm at home and automatics when driving.
If you end up not liking the Volt flavors, which incidentally are from the same juice makers as the Blu ones, you can buy blank cartomizers from the Smokeless Image website and get juice elsewhere. If you choose this route, be careful not to buy large bottles of juice until you've tried them out, and experiment with different vendors, PG/VG ratios, and nicotine levels. It may be a bit pricey in the beginning to figure out your personal preferences, but in the long run, it's totally worth it.
ETA: Don't be freaked out about how much I've spent. Again, a lot of that money was from mistakes like buying without checking reviews, getting liquid in too large of bottles, or generally spending too much on any one thing without knowing my preferences first. As long as you limit what you buy until you know for certain what you like, you should be able to get set up much cheaper than I did.
