I'm not sure if anyone has come up with this mod yet but I figured I'd share what I've learned after being frustrated with cart fillers that were just not working for me. I performed this mod on an Ego Mega type A cart but it can be used for others as well. It doesn't use a spring, but the fluval acts like a spring and holds very well to the sides of the cart as well. This mod works with fluval (must be the foam type) and blue foam. The fluval foam I used is for the C4 aquarium filters but the fluval 204/205 304/305 will work too because it is the same type foam.

I have included pictures showing the process.

I cut the fluval just a little bit bigger than the inside of the cart. I haven't experimented but it should work well too if cut smaller than inside of the cart. Just cut it so its low enough in the cart to put the blue foam on top. The fluval works as a great wick, the holes in the foam are just too big from my experience to use as a filler by itself.

This is what it looks like when its complete and the blue foam plug has been loaded.

For a first time fill, load the cart to the top of the fluval, then put the plug in place and put a few more drops to saturate the blue foam. To refill, take off the blue foam plug, add juice, replace the plug, put a few more drops and you're good to go.

Thanks. I have a PetCo or a PetSmart down the road. I have been meaning to go to get some more Blue Foam. Might have to pick up something similar to your white foam and give it a try.

I have down the same thing using Stainless Steel Scrubbie Pads with Blue Foam on the End.

The Blue Foam is actualy aquarium filter material. I think the best is Marineland Size U?. It comes as a cylinder but you cut in into pieces.

Did it leak using 100% PG juice? Or did you use another liquid base for your test?
