My atomizer died today (901, 3 weeks). Boiling made it good as new (Just compared it to brand new DSE901). Don't need a HUGE post to say that.
Boiling is the best cleaning method. Period.

You know, strangely enough, the atomizers which work best for me are the ones that I have not drained or cleaned.
i see draining as a waste of time and liquid...and i think the only time an atomiser should be cleaned by boiling is when absolutely necessary...otherwise,just blow them out...

you can boil them, steam them, add alcohol, mouthwash,ultrasonic them,say a prayer for them. but its hit and miss every atomizer Ive boiled has ethier died or come back as a wimp! ..look at them as disposable and you cant go wrong.
How long did you boil them? I left them in prob < 30secs and they worked perfectly.
I might just be lucky (so far) but I have steamed my 901's 6/7 times now and they are all doing very well. I boiled them the first time before I hit on the idea of steaming them, it made a difference but nothing like steaming them does. My cheap pen was slow both before and marginally better (but not optimal like the 901's) after steaming. So far my mydnite pen hasn't needed cleaning yet so will report back when I do clean them.
It is very important to remember that after boiling, there is no lubrication of any kind on the atomizer. it means that it can die easily if you are not priming it before activation .
drip few drops of your favorite liquid, wait a little until fully soaked , than take a puff or two, then another drop or two on the atomizer or a new cart.

I've boiled a lot, and never had an atomizer stop working. I have had 2 it didn't improve though. And it's funny, a Janty and a njoy. So far, I have a generic pen I've boiled 4 times, and every time i't s huge improvement. Back to like when I first got them. Hmmmm, am I really THAT lucky?
Ruby, I too used my steamer on 3 901's that got wispy, great results!! Hate the idea of boiling. Steamer is my cleaner from now on. Haven't tried it on a penstyle yet. Will be looking for your results or if one of mine goes, will post my results.
That ceramic core could actually be plastic. Some gaskets could be rubber that can handle that temperature only barely. Then again some types of plastic can handle boiling no problem. You can try poking the core with needle and it feels glassy, it is ceramic or some hard plastic.

i had nothing to lose with 2 pretty much dead atomizers. it brought one back to life, did nothing for the other. i boiled water in a pan and lowered the atomizers int he water, but kept them on a slotted spoon, boiled for a couple minutes.
