boost amperage a little bit

i have a passthru power supply i purchased that is not doing the job i expected. it is the power pack for the VP-Passthru, available from several merchants. i am not going to get upset with the merchant, as i believe it was made in china. I can BE WRONG about the china thing, but when i searched for the numbers on the board i was surprised that ALL of the hits for the search were in chinese lettering.
BUT

the power supply doesnt seem to have enough UMPH to heat up my attys on a brand new vapor king passthru with a kr808 or a 901 atty.

my first thought is maybe a loose connection. but i can switch from another power supply directly to the power pack, and the power pack just won't perform. i got out my volt meter and i am getting 5V at the passthru atty connector. i have no way to check the amps.

the specs on the power supply 'say' the output is 5V 2000mA.
AND so does the power source that actually works(car adapter).

my question is , can i change(mod) a resistor and squeeze out another .5 amp or maybe a whole 1 amp?

If they are advertising 2A output, I would contact the supplier & tell them what is happening. It is possible that you may have gotten a bad one. It happens sometimes.

Mad Vapes carries a couple that are 2A-AC Chargers. I haven't used one, but have read good things in here about them. You might want to give one of them a try.

The only simple way I know to increase current is to parallel the power supply. You'd have to have 2 of them going into 1 PT. If there is an easier way, I wish one of the gurus around here would jump in & show us how.

would you believe i have 2 of the same unit and both are performing the same. and is why i believe it's not a bad unit and i know it is possible just unlikely that 2 would do the same thing.

i am in contact with them too. and if they tell me send them back i will. so far that hasn't happened yet. but if i get stuck with them i want more options.

i looked at the mad vapes one.......i'll probably get that one if i have to.

Anything in the world with electricity flowing through it has Chinese components. All cars, TV's etc. China is the manufacturer of ICs. My Pioneer, a premier Japanese brand DVD burner is made in China.

That said do yourself a favor and forget about another AC USB adapter. Get yourself a regulated power supply of at least 5V@2.5A and either wire it direct (best) or attach a mating USB connector. Look around the house if you've ever owned a D-Link router check the PS. The are usually 5V@2.5-3A.

This one will push any standard atty you throw at it at a true 5V with current to spare.

This one should also do it as theoretically 2.4A can push a 2.1Ω atty to 5V. And it's a US vendor (still Chinese made though). As far as cartos and 901's it has more than enough current available and will easily be able to overcome the extra resistance introduced by USB adapters and thin USB cables.

i have a D-link that i just removed from my home network so i will go look at it, as well as looking thru all my orphan transformers.

and i just heard from the merchant, they are going to swap them out. i had no doubt that they would take care of it for me.

it's just hard for me to believe that the 2 i purchased, both are non-functional. the odds on that are astronomical.
