bottom coil vs top coil /pros and cons please

I am somewhat new to vaping and have been using am Innokin Itaste vv/vw with an Iclear 16 top coil which has been working great with 2 months of daily vaping.:vapor: I have yet to sample any bottom coil clearomizers or any other top coil clearos. Can anybody please identify the pros and cons in comparison to both. I would greatly appreciate it. The new iclear 30 and 30s seems to have good reviews, however a consistent con seems to be the ejuice consumption is very rapid from what I have seen on reviews and youtube. Any comments are appreciated. Thank you. :vapor:

My favorite top coil is the Vision Vivi-Nova, 3.5mL full size tank, easy to fill, re-build coils, good flavor, warmth, taste. They are a single coil setup so they tend to use less juice than dual coils like the iclear line, but that will be true for any dual coil carto or tank.

I've tried both the top and bottom coil setups and am definitely a top coil fan, the bottom coils are just too cold for me. The evod I tried wasn't too bad, decent flavor & vapor, but too cool for me, cheap enough to try one....:) If you've been using and enjoying the top coil iclear the vivi would be an option, but stick to genuine Vision, the copies and knock-offs have been less than stellar.

Top coil:
Pros:
- been around longer
Cons:
- defies gravity; new vapers tend to get dry hit

Bottom coil:
Pros:
- coil is probably wet so you're not as likely to get a dry hit.
- electrical does not have to go up to the top of the tank (cheaper to make)
Cons:
- coil might flood by gravity

Top coil gives a warmer vape, and *might* sputter hot droplets straight to mouth;
Bottom coil gives a cooler vape; refreshing in warm weather; useless in cold weather.

The system is evolving; the clearos are evolving towards the cartos and the cartos are evolving towards the clearos; they will merge into one like a Sophia.

The only con I've found with the bottom coils is remembering not to tip them right side up before you screw the base back on. Used top coils for a long time and got too many dry hits. Shook and flicked them a lot and it soon just became second nature. Made the switch to bottom coils and absolutely love them. Love them! The only hitch was remembering not to tip them back over before or after filling them while the base was off. It's a doofus move, but it took me a little while to stop doing it.

Just this morning I wanted to change tanks (I switch flavors all day long) so i unscrewed the tank and promptly spilled warm juice all over my pajamas...forgot to turn it upside down, lol

I prefer the bottom coils, the hubby prefers the top. I just don't like the look of the long wicks sitting in the juice and then looking "gunky", it grosses me out a little bit.

Long wicks can be problematic in a top coil tank, and are unnecessary. I trim my wicks short and unravel, fluff them up, so that the coil sits above the juice, tipping your PV to take a puff, will saturate the wick enough to vape. It makes the top coil work like an old school 510 atty without the metal tube around it, and I always tilt my PV to take a vape. It's almost like dripping on a 510 atty, great flavor, great vapor....:vapor:

Bottom coils only work if you keep your PV upright at all times, otherwise dry hits....:)

Bottom coils are just more natural to me. You can change a head without having to fiddle with Octopus tentacle wicks. They fill easily and produce a cooler vape. I never cared for heat in a vape, that's just me.

Top coils require some tipping and twirling from time to time. The lower the juice level, the more you need to tip and roll. I tend to vape more upright instead of level, so I compound the problem.

If you are already satisfied with the Iclear 16 top coil... you have one very nice clearomizer there
that's hard to beat except for the amount of e-liquid it can hold.
Just a thought... because you're already aware of having to tip the Iclear 16 occasionally to feed
the coils at the top... here is a suggestion... that I have already and do use...

Those long pig tails they call WICKS... I cut to half their original length... and in no way do they
stop their ability to perform at TOP levels... actually they seem to do even better... and at the Same-time
you are able to place --- or --- fill the tank with MORE e-liquid...

...again just something to think about...
You already have one of the best CLEAROMIZER the Iclear 16 ... that kicks (good) like a Mule...
it's hard to beat it...

Unless you really want to go up... in price and then
your talking about an Aspire Nautilus Bottom Dual clearomizer for over $30.00
or the new Pro Tank Aero for about $20.00

Bottom coil can give you a warm vape if you turn up the power a bit. I'm running the new Kanger aerotank right now (bottom dual coil)and I can get both cool or warm hits out of it depending on where I have my watts set (BTW I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS TANK!!). Also allot of the newer bottom coil designs have more or less worked out the leakage issues.

Top coils tend to get hot with prolonged use and not everyone likes a hot hit. To cool them down besides waiting just hold it upside down so the juice cools it off. Also I've found if I drag on a top coil too hard I'll get some nice molten juice searing the insides of my mouth.

I'm biased towards bottom coils myself but I should note I started out on top coils and still use them to this day on occasion.

Greetings and welcome to the forum.

The new-ish Vapeonly Aspire BDCCs are bottom coil which have a pretty warm vape.

I seem to get better vapor production with the Protank on the MVP. The iclear 30s works great on ego twist and Vamo but not so much on the MVP (same juice, have tried playing around with the vv/vw). Also less gurgling issues with the Protank. Protank mouthpiece has more of a polished chrome mouth feel where the iclear has the brushed stainless steal taste/feel. I suppose it depends on if I'm feeling more like playing around with the swivel tip or want to drop the mvp with the pro tank in my pocket and go. Again YMMV

I used to love my vision vivi nova minis since they never leak or leave any liquid on the contact. The bottom coils just taste better so have switched to them and dont mind wiping off my battery contact since its very little that comes out. The main problem I'm having with bottom coils is going from really cold outside to warm inside makes them flood easily so I try to remember to turn it upside down until the tank warms up.
