They are a pretty old tech as far as vaporizers go. They can be used with cartos but most folks use rebuildables. For an RDA, it does need to be "special." There is a hole in the center post through which the juice is fed.

Below the atty the is a bottle of juice with a tube connecting to the bottom of the atomizer. The tube extends to the bottom of the bottle. Push the bottle and juice is fed by pressure up into the atty wetting the wick. When the bottle is released the excess juice is pulled back down. This action is affectionately called squonking.
Big advantages are less mess, change flavors at will, dripping and driving, and to me looks a bit more classy than dripping from a bottle into a robot-(male chicken) when in a more formal setting.

There are other bottom feeder mods other than the Reo, though it is one of the best. They are fairly easy to build yourself. Most BFs are mechanical mods.

Any brand names yall can throw my way, reos are too rich for my blood.

Used they can come in from $80 to $120 plus $30 for an atty. Reos the only American made other than limited production runs and customs. Several are made in Italy, but then there shipping, currency exchange, and lack of support. My first bottom feeder was a used Nipples Tree Nerone. I wanted wood and Reo woodvilles were out of my price range, I paid $120.

I made a BF mod for under $20 in parts. If you can drill the center post, you can get an appropriate atty for $10-$15. The RM3 (reomizer 3) is an A6 that has been modified by Reosmods.

The difficult part is not knowing if you are going to like it. Though most do, some don't. With a kayfun-like clone tank you are only out $20-$30. But you soon end up with 3 or 4 to have some flavors in rotation and end up spending the same or more. The good news is a used Reo can be sold for what you paid if you were patient and waited for a good deal.

I felt the same. Kept my eye on the classifieds and picked one up at a great price. Been using it for 3 years and it was used.

You could pick up an inexpensive bottom feeder to see if it's for you.

Where can i get a inexpensive one?

The Reo is probably the most affordable and reliable Bottom Feeder available these days. As it's already been said, you usually can get an entire set up ready to vape with extra parts included for about the price of a new Reo body in the member classifieds/swaps section. You need to become a verified member first.
The upside is if it's not for you, you usually can recoup your money very easily in the classifieds... Many members are actively seeking another Reo to add to their collection. They have an outstanding resale value and never last long in the classies.

It's a shame that the only US options are the reo and the vmod.

Not exactly... there's also ECF's very own pdib who makes an absolutely gorgeous wooden bottom feeder... but it's a luxury buy, not exactly in the "affordable" range as per the OP!
I've got pdib envy big-time!

There are many more bottom fed mods available but the costs generally are much higher than with a Reo in my experience. I know of a few less expensive units but, again this is just my opinion, the cost savings up front would not justify the purchase for me. You can get a used Reo for maybe $25-$50 more (including an RDA) than these other mods and it will last you a lifetime. This really is one of those purchases that is worth the few extra dollars from the get go, once you have one you won't ever regret it and if for some reason you do you can sell it on the classies with little to no loss in a heartbeat. Very little risk with the expenditure.

Bottom feeder mods are great,

The only gripe I have about them is the custom atomizers required for them, you'll need an atty that the center is a flow through design as that is where the liquid comes up.
I once was up to date on which atomizers are out there, from what I can see a lot of attys can be altered to work without any trouble but again, I'd hit up the forum's here on that as I know very little actually only what I've read about 3 years ago.

Reo's are a good solid device at about the best price you'll find. From what I have gathered as a lot have come and gone the Reo has stood the test of time with the least issues and most reliability, but this is a personal opinion and research may prove otherwise.

Hope this helps some.

There's also the ones made by Gdeal.... one for DNA and Mech.... I've got 2 of the DNA models myself. I've also got one in the works (been using it for 3 weeks and working the bugs out).
These are DIY kits though.... Body made on a 3D printer. As for the Atty's, sky's the limit. Chowderhead1972 would be the one I would send you too if you don't want to drill them out yourself.
I prefer BF MODs simply because they're easier to deal with.... No tank to leak, no tank to drain for coil replacement or rewicking, no dripping n driving..... Just toss a coil on them, a little cotton and go. If the coil or cotton needs changing while your out, quick and easy to replace. Add in the temp protection on a DNA 40 now.... can't imagine a better, easier MOD.

I've heard of these things, I think I've even seen a pic or 3... Pretty cool stuff!
I'm not a DIY'er when it comes to "some assembly required" unfortunately... Heck, I can't seem to help my 4yr old put together a simple "Ninja Turtle" jigsaw puzzle without getting PO'd and becoming a poor example for him...:D
It sure does seem like a cool project for someone with the skill and patience!
